It is more important for the government to construct new buildings than preserve historic or traditional ones.

Buildings, an important part of civilized society to provide all citizens with an ideal living environment, never fail to reflect the culture of an era and keep changing with the pace of the economic development. There is no doubt that over a few decades, some buildings might become outdated and be replaced by updated ones. Some argue that the renewal of buildings is critical and should draw up more attention, whereas others state that protecting historic ones is beneficial for the preservation of culture and need more social focus. I, along with the many, assert that the construction of new buildings should arouse social focus and attract investment from the government because of its role as locomotive in promoting the economy and facilitating citizen’s life.

What must be prioritized is that the construction of modernized architecture enables citizens to live with convenience. Modern architects emphasize the suitable structures and delicate designs, which match the demand of modern consumers. To be specific, when constructing modern buildings, the size of rooms will be thoroughly calculated to ensure the practicality and the appearance of the building will be carefully decorated to make it appealing. Moreover, utilitarian settings are indispensable in modern buildings, which largely facilitate people’s life. For instance, new invented appliances like automatic doors and elevator system are now applied in modernized buildings and enable citizens to lead highly-convenient life. Recent research conducted by a group of sociologists in Harvard, aiming to find out the advantages of modern buildings, suggests that the structure of modern buildings is not only delicate but also matches the particular environment of the region, which enables people to live in an ideal condition, and that the updated setting like automatic shelves and electronic doors are really convenient and useful.

What cannot be overlooked is that the construction of modernized architecture plays an important role in stimulating the economy. The past decades have seen that the wide construction of modernized architecture greatly stimulated development of relevant technology and activated the market. To be specific, when engaging to construct new buildings, well-experienced architects and well-skilled workers are required, which benefits to the utilization of new technology and matches the demands of consumers who are hunger for high-tech products. Additionally, the demands for modernized buildings also stimulate the financial industry since renewed architecture are more costly than traditional ones. In order to pursue high-tech products, citizens would borrow a fortune from the banks and work harder to return the loan back, which greatly propels the development of economy. Take Shanghai, a metropolis which serves as a powerful engine in China’s economy, as a case in point. Most traditional buildings there are replaced by modern ones designed by famous architects, this process intrigues the development of relevant technology and makes full use of bank, which gives rise to a prosperous market. In 2012, the profits gained by constructing buildings increased to 10% of all profits made in Shanghai.

The research and the example of Shanghai best illustrate the role that constructing new buildings plays in the facilitation of citizens life and the development of the economy. In short, constructing modern buildings is like a powerful engine that magnificently push the society forward. For a more prosperous future, it is only right for the government to make more investments on establishing modern buildings.
