教材分析:本单元是Go for it ( 下 ) Unit 6。主要围绕“What are you doing?”这一主题展开各种教学活动,并以这一主题引出现在进行时的一般疑问句,否定句以及特殊疑问句等语言功能。本单元旨在创造一个轻松、愉快的学习、交流环境,通过听、说、读、写练习培养学生综合运用这些知识的能力。并让学生能在“做中学”(learning by doing),通过有限的课堂实践活动,注意观察别人的行动,能准确地用英语来表达。
Section A (1a----2d)是本单元的第一课时,学生主要学习用现在进行时态描述人们正在进行的活动,现在进行时态是学生才接触的一种新时态,因此需要在课前对此时态作必要的解释,以便学生真正理解该时态如何使用。
Teaching design:

1)Learn news and phrases;watching TV,reading a newspaper, talking on the phone, listening to a CD, using the computer, making soup, washing the dishes, exercising.

Teaching Procedures
Step1 Free talk and Lead-in
T: Good morning, everyone! I am your English teacher , I teach you English, right? We are having an English class now, what are we doing?
S: We are having an English class
T: Today we will learn a new tense-- the present progressive tense, then explain the meaning of it and write its structure .on the blackboard.
Step2.Presentation
Look at the screen. Show some pictures one by one to learn some phrases.
Then tell students the rules of the present participle form
Next do asking and answering practice.
E g. T: What is he doing ?
Ss: He is watching TV
T: What is she doing ?
Ss: She is washing the dishes.
Learn phrases: watching
TV, reading a book, using the computer, making soup , listening to
music, talking on the phone..and
Step3 Talking the pictures (1a)
T: These are happy apartments , different people do different activities. But they live a happy life. Now let’s look at these phrases about activities.
First ask students to read the phrases in 1a.
Then look at pictures carefully and match the activities with the pictures.
Check the answers with the following way
T:What is he doing in picture a?
S:He is talking on the phone.
Deal with other pictures in the same way.
Step4 listening (1b,2a,2b)
T: Look at activity 1b, there are three people in it, they are Jenny, John, Dave and Mary, now listen the tape carefully and tell me what they are doing?
Check the answers
Deal with activity 2a and 2b
First read these sentences in 2a
Then listen to the tape, match the answers and questions
Listen again, fill in the blanks
Check the answers by repeat the listening script .
Step5 Practice
Ask several students to do some body language according to teacher’s instructions. other students answer with the target language.
Then show the pictures before, work in pairs to practice conversations
Ask some pairs to act out
Finally, ask students to read the conversation together in 2d
Step6 Summary and homework
This class, we learned key phrases and how to use the target language to talk about what people are doing
Homework
Use 3-5 minutes to explain the homework, make the students know what kind of homework they should finish
