歌曲背景

这首歌要追溯到1715年以前的苏格兰。苏格兰高地地区的氏族在1715年和1745年曾经两次发动叛变，支持詹姆斯二世的后代。叛乱被镇压下去后，苏格兰的氏族制度也宣告解体。有说法说这首歌最开始部队中传唱。

但是Aiken Drum是谁呢？可能是苏格兰和北英格兰传说中的小精灵Brownie，他非常善良且爱搞而作剧。William Nicholson所写"The Brounie o Blednoch" 诗歌中主角就是 Aiken Drum，在苏格兰 brownie家喻户晓。

最初Helen Layman在儿歌和童谣中提及'Aiken Drum '. Percy Society的《英伦早期诗歌》并开始普及。Briggs提到Scotsman William Nicholson1878年编写《Poetical Works》中包含《Aiken Drum 民歌》

Aiken Drum的曲调应该来自Piper o' Dundee。两者的歌词结构非常相似。
