       相信了解乔治·梅里爱的人，以及了解本届奥斯卡最佳特效奖影片《雨果》的人，对梅里爱的历史和成就已经了然于心了，我在此也不想多述，不过还是建议不太了解的朋友先去看看《雨果》，毕竟是一部向梅里爱致敬的片子，很好地还原了属于他的那段最重要的历史。

       在学习外国电影史的时候不可能不提到这位与电影发明人卢米埃尔兄弟同时期却不同风格的电影艺术家，对我们来说，他更重要的身份是“公认的电影特技之父”。我是在寻找梅里爱的代表作《月球旅行记》的过程中找到这份资源的，关于它的来历，还很有故事。

       《雨果》中对于梅里爱历史的叙述基本属实，总之，这位当初拍摄了556部影片（根据IMDB记录）的大师由于拒绝使用外景和变化景别，我们看到他的所有影片都是固定视角的舞台戏剧形式，这不免在后期让人感到乏味。《雨果》中提到，一战过后，人们不再爱好幻想题材的梅里爱作品，他的生意难以维系，自己也感到被世人所遗忘了，于是焚毁了所有道具，并把胶片卖给塑料厂回收。当然，片中那位电影史作者与梅里爱之间的关系带有虚构成分，但他提到的耗费多年努力寻找、拯救存世的梅里爱作品却有事实根据。法国人乃至全球专家一直致力于搜集那些还保存着的梅里爱作品拷贝，历时数十年之久，终于从各种私人收藏家、收藏馆、博物馆那里收集到了大约200部作品（《雨果》中说的是80多部）。包括Technicolor在内的数家电影技术公司花费了10多年的时间来对这些影片进行修复和重新上色，而法国电影机构Lobster Films即在2010年发行了这套名为《First Wizard of Cinema》的梅里爱作品合集，共5张DVD，包含梅里爱1896-1913年的173部作品（其中有的为片段），其实后来又出了一张补充DVD补上了另外26部作品，但此张DVD至今网上没有找到资源，故不予发布。
