O Come,O Come,Emmanuel又称Veni,Veni,Emmanuel 中文常译作:与上帝同在!

O Come O Come Emmanuel

Hello everyone!  Today it is very windy and intermittently cloudy and sunny.  It was fine on my way to church, as the wind was encouraging me on my way.  On my return I had to battle against the wind and at one point I was nearly blown backwards!  May, who I usually take to church, was celebrating her birthday with family, so it gave me the chance for some exercise, which I enjoy.

I found the service very good and challenging.  We sang some of my favourite hymns for Advent Sunday like, O Come O come Emmanuel;Lo, he comes with clouds descendingandTheres a light upon the mountains.  I love to be able to sing Gods praises in the hymns.  Shaun our minister was very good in his address and I will share some parts which made an impact on me.  Before he began his address he asked us to wait.  That time of silent waiting was profound for me and it added to my anticipation.  He used an illustration, which lives with me.  Apparently a man read his Bible closely and was sure that Jesus was going to return at 4am on one particular day in August 2003!  He was so certain, that he was sitting at 4am in his garden expecting Jesus to arrive.  He felt distraught when Jesus did not come, but a sobbing woman came round the corner, and before long she was being made a cup of tea and was being listened to and helped.  Jesusdid come as that woman, who needed the help.  At times we may feel hopeless, as we look at all the disasters happening almost daily, and wonder where Jesus is and why he has not come yet.  However he is there in those who are along those who are suffering and bereaved and he is suffering with them.  We need to be alert and ready to see Jesus in those around us and welcome all as though they were Jesus.  I love to welcome Jesus in my life each day and thank him for all the blessings I enjoy.

My beloved had prepared delicious chicken casserole and his special roast potatoes, which we both enjoyed for our Sunday lunch.  We then indulged ourselves with our Sunday treat of chocolate; the Traidcraft organic Cappuccino chocolate disappeared very quickly!   I am glad to relaxing with my beloved, cosy and warm, as the weather has deteriorated into heavy rain and blustery winds!  This is the day that the Lord has made and I rejoice and am glad in it.
