很久以前有人向我推荐了这首诗, Louis MacNeice的The sunlight on the garden. 初读下来, 便有一种怅然若失的感觉. 对于逝去时光的怜惜,对此时此刻的感激,对命运的无可奈何, 接踵而来.

前两天又想起此诗,但没能找到任何一个译本. 可能是太偏了吧这诗. 于是自己尝试翻译了一下, 绞尽脑汁发现还是狗屁不通. 权当参考吧.

Hardens and grows cold,                                       僵硬冰冷
We cannot cage the minute                                     时光难锁
Within its nets of gold,                                      金色牢笼
When all is told                                              尘埃落定后
We cannot beg for pardon.                                     一切再难重

Our freedom as free lances                                  自由似矛肆意飞
Advances towards its end;                                   及至终点命亦终
The earth compels, upon it                                  如诗歌,如飞鸟
Sonnets and birds descend;                                  坠入深渊觅无踪
And soon, my friend,                                        又如你与我
We shall have no time for dances.                           无暇起舞来日中

The sky was good for flying                                 长空当舞
Defying the church bells                                    无视教堂哭丧钟
And every evil iron                                         海上妖女
Siren and what it tells:                                    时时唱歌声
The earth compels,                                          你我死期至
We are dying, Egypt, dying                                  魂归大地绝此生

And not expecting pardon,                                  不企覆来
Hardened in heart anew,                                    心已僵硬
But glad to have sat under                                 幸哉与你
Thunder and rain with you,                                 风雷与共
