structured ready-to-wear, loungewear is relaxed and versatile.

designers are meeting the demand for fashionable, comfortable
clothing. Shying away from conspicuous consumption, these styles

retailer John Lewis has documented increasing sales in both men’s
and women’s loungewear categories, reporting that men’s
night/loungewear is up 100% from last year and women’s sales are up
90%. More specifically, women’s nightdresses are up 210%, jersey
loungewear is up 178%, and Calvin Klein lingerie up 180% (Hannah

stores, loungewear is often grouped not with clothing, but with
soft home accessories. At the recent Christmas 2011 press days,
high street retailers commented that sales of loungewear such as
bathrobes, soft footwear, cushions, throws and home accessories
have been particularly strong and are selling extremely well in
their seasonal gifting collections. High-end designers are also
reporting strong sales in soft home accessories, with brands such
as Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Missoni and Diane von Furstenberg all
designing home collections. Much like luxury loungewear, home
offerings are available in sumptuous, soft materials, with
cashmere, wool, silk, velvet and faux fur favoured.
