A Secret History

The reason why I was reluctant to write anything about the book was that I simply had nothing to say about it. The book itself was a marvelous fiction, well-paced and beautiful prosed, with a gentle sad narrative similar to that of Fitzgerald. But the story itself didn't give too much insight into life itself, so it was a perfect book for summe reading or any vacation reading.
Basically, it tells the story of a young man Richard, who went to a small liberal arts college in Vermont, and studied Greek under a professor with five other students. They formed their own little clique, alienating themselves from the rest of the college. Their lives were extravagant, for everyone except Richard came from a ridiculously rich family. The entire book talked about a planned murder of one of the group member, Bunny, who started to become exceptionally annoying and stinking, sucking money from others. It was a tragedy, with vulnerable justification of the evil action from Richard himself. It also incorporated many romanticism elements from the Greek stories, making the entire book centered around the Classic studies.
I read it simply because one of the teachers I respected most recommended it on the school website. It was pretty fascinating also because it was such a huge book, and I liked being challenged when it comes to reading. The story was a huge satisfaction, but an empty feeling howling inside my after I finished. I did not really know what to learn from it, except that I should probably not study Greek at college. Well, my parents are not freaking rich so I don't really have to worry about becoming one of the characters, so I guess all I can say about the book is that it is not a bad book. If you have time, read it; if you don't, well, that's up to you then.
Three more days until I fly back to Hotchkiss and start a new semester. My advisor just emailed me today saying that he signed up another course for me, meaning that I would have no free periods starting from January 14th. I used to have four free periods in the entire week, which I generally used to get some extra sleep or finish my homework. But now it seems like I would have to work even harder to finish those homework, plus some more form the new class i'm taking, after school. I'm not sure if I can take that much; if not I will have to drop it, even though it is something I am really interested in: Modern East Asia history. My interest for politics is never satisfied in the courses I am taking, since AP comparative government is only provided in the second semester and I am on the waitlist for that course (48 students signed up for 12 seats, including many seniors who would be given priority when it comes to course selection).
Seems surviving is going to be a bigger problem... but right now my job is to enjoy three more days of leisure before being dumped into the wildness.
Keep tuned!
