本书也是在社区图书馆里借来翻看一下，对美国申大学的essay做一个大概了解，看后觉得内容很好，然后在amzon上搜一下，居然看到五星的评价。本书为第四版，第五版将在2013年5月份出来，书的作者是George Ehrenhaft,是Barron's旗下一个对美国申大学考试相关方面著述颇丰的一个编者。
  本书作者认为essay是大学要求学生"Present yourself honestly and encourage you to write an essay in which you avoid trying to appear to be someone you think they would want as a studentin their campaus. The truth is,they want you to show yourself as the person you really are." 他的一些关于essay的tips：1、Start early.在Junior和senior之间的暑期开始构思和准备；2、Cast aside preconceptions of what a college wants.这个tip还是让学生能够Honestly地写出自己；3、Answer the question.也就是针对学校要求的一些问题作出回答，不要写跑题。4、Avoid cliches。避免写一些大家都会写的主题。5、Choose an appropriate tone.6、write a well-organized, detailed essay that focus on a single main idea.6、Follow the conventions of standard English usuage and grammar.7、 Think about your audience.试着从读者或AO的角度去读你的essay看是否合适。8、Stick to the word limit.9、Get feedback from others.让老师、 counselors,friends及家人读一读看是否essay表达出who you are.本书的第一章作者分析了为什么现在大学录取需要essay；第二章分析什么样的essay对录取的帮助是有效的，并在该章里分析了一些容易写但又要避免落入俗套的一些主题，如何中肯地回答大学申请essay写作中需回答的一些问题。第三章分别从不同学校的不同essay问题来分析如何写，写什么，这部分内容是本书的精华。第四章是如何组织essay的结构；第五章是修改和编辑；第六章是提交。
   本书总体来看，对essay如何写得出彩很有帮助的。
