一提起宋代皇帝的书法，大多数人立马会想到宋徽宗。事实上，由于宋代崇文重教，皇帝的文化水平都不赖，有好几位皇帝都在书法上有很高的造诣。

宋真宗赵恒

宋真宗赵恒（968年—1022年），宋朝第三位皇帝，宋太宗第三子，在位二十五年。赵恒好文学，善书法。著名谚语“书中自有黄金屋，书中自有颜如玉”即出自于他。

宋仁宗赵祯（1010年—1063年），宋朝第四位皇帝，宋真宗赵恒第六子。在位四十二年，为宋朝在位时间最长的皇帝。史家把仁宗在位及亲政治理国家的时期概括为“仁宗盛治”。

宋徽宗赵佶

宋徽宗赵佶（1082年—1135年），宋神宗十一子，是宋朝第八位皇帝。他兄长宋哲宗无子，死后传位于他，在位25年。宋徽宗在位初期颇有明君之气，后经蔡京等大臣的诱导，政治情形一落千丈，国亡被俘，死于异乡。

尽管他是一个不成功的皇帝，但其书画造诣极高，因此为后人称道。所创瘦金体，运笔飘忽快捷，笔迹瘦劲，至瘦而不失其肉，转折处可明显见到藏锋、露锋等运转提顿痕迹，风格相当独特。

宋高宗赵构（1107年—1187年），宋朝第十位皇帝，在位35年，为南宋开国皇帝，宋徽宗赵佶第九子。宋高宗是一位功过参半的皇帝，坚持与金议和，付出极大代价；但也延续了宋朝的国号和正朔，稳定了国家局势。赵构精于书法，善真、行、草书，笔法洒脱婉丽，自然流畅，颇得晋人神韵。

赵惇（1147年-1200年），宋朝第十二位皇帝，宋孝宗赵昚第三子。他是宋朝皇帝中比较平庸的一位。他受父禅位登基时42岁，并不算年老，却体弱多病。心理上，也没有安邦治国之才，听取奸臣谗言，罢免辛弃疾等主战派大臣，又让心狠手辣的皇后李凤娘干政，自己对朝政的掌握力不断下降。

赵昀（1205年―1264年），南宋第五位皇帝，宋太祖赵匡胤之子赵德昭九世孙。原名赵与莒，被立为宁宗弟沂王嗣子，后被立为宁宗皇子，赐名昀。宋宁宗死后继位，为宋理宗，在位四十年。
