Many species of plants and animals have come and gone throughout the history of the Earth. From this perspective, extinction can be seen as part of a natural process. Some people have argued that we should not, therefore, make heroic efforts to preserve the natural habitats of endangered plates and animals when doing so would conflict with human interests.
To what extent do you agree with this view?
It is said that some species would disappear from the earth. This has become the seed of a heated debate
-whether efforts should be paid to preserve the rare plants and animal or not. Some argue that
brave efforts should be taken to preserve the endangered species; whereas others disagree by
insisting that such efforts stand against human interests. This essay will discuss if the human efforts conflict human interests in protecting the endangered species.
Firstly, because of limited resources, human efforts should be invested into urgent issues. One of the most pressing issues confront human beings today is to save the children who are struggling
with survival for lack of elementary resources. These children are in need of food in their bowls, clothes to cover their bodies, and shelters over their heads. To provide these basic necessities, lands would have to be claimed, so that factories could be built to manufacture food, clothes and even medicines; trees should be cut, so that houses could be built to shelter the young and even the poor. While the survival of the young is uncertain, it could be unwise to waste the limited
efforts to guarantee the lives of the plants and the animals.
However, ignoring the survival the wild life would endanger the lives of human being in return.
Because damage to the biodiversity is highly likely to destroy the balance in the ecosystem, which would lead to environmental degradation. Take desertification for example, it is well-known that the sand storm weather in Beijing, the capital of China, has been caused by deforestation in inner Mongolia. The disappearance of trees has enlarged the size of the desert around
Beijing. Today, the sand storm coupled with air pollution have made the capital of China
unsuitable for people to reside. Therefore, for human being to survive and thrive, the protection of the species, endangered or not, is vital.
Given the consideration of both the positive and negative aspects, it can be concluded that efforts should always be made to preserve the wild life, whether endangered or not, for the sake of
human existence. The best course of action would be to attempt to achieve a balance between the preservation of the endangered species and human interests.
