1 . variety 指若干本质上相同或根本不同的东西在形式上或品质上的多样化。表示“种类，多样化”，a variety of“种种，多种多样的”。如：

Ø Several varieties of products are on show.许多农产品在展出。

Ø At school we learn a variety of things.在学校我们学习各种东西。

2. kind 指属于同种类的东西，用法比较庄重。性质相同，且有极相似的特点，能在分类中置于一起作为一类者.如：

Ø I don’t like the people of that kind.我不喜欢那种人。

Ø This restaurant offers all kinds of Chinese food.这家餐馆提供各种各样的中国食物.

3. sort 指大体相类似，较为含糊，常可与kind替换.但有时也可指贬义上的东西。如：

Ø That sort of action disgusts me.那种行为另我厌恶。

Ø I’ll never do this sort/kind of thing.我绝不会干这种事。

4. type 是仔细明确的按客观条件划分的集群。指“型，类型”.在kind中可分不同的type . 如：

Ø This is a new type of apple.这种苹果是新品种。

Ø I saw a new type of car in front of his house.我在他房前看见一辆新型的小汽车。
