Animals fingerplay songs and rhymes will always entertain your baby. These fingerplays will help stir your child's creative imagination when remembering the animals mentioned in these preschool fingerplays and songs.
Little Robin Red
Breast
(hold up thumb and baby finger, and
curl down rest of fingers)
Little robin red breast, stay upon a
rail
niddle, noodle went his head (wiggle thumb for
head)
wibble, wobble went his tail (wiggle baby finger for
tail)
Little
Turtle
There was a little turtle
(Make fist like
turtle)
That lived in a box (Draw a box in the
air)
He swam through the puddles (Pretend to
swim)
And climbed on the rocks (Walk finger's across child's
hair)
He snapped at a mosquito (Make snapping
motion)
He snapped at a flea (Make snapping
motion)
He snapped at a minnow (Make snapping
motion)
And he snapped at me (Snap at
yourself)
He caught the mosquito (Tickle child)
He caught the flea (Tickle child
again)
He caught the minnow (Tickle child yet
again)
But he didn't catch me !!!!
Round and Round the
Garden
Round and round the garden like a
teddy bear (swirl your index finger around palm
of child's hand)
One step, Two step (walk fingers up child's
arm)
Hidden under there! (tickle child's
underarm)
Roundabout Wee
Mousey
Roundabout, roundabout, little wee
mouse (swirl your index finger around palm
of child's hand)
Up the tree, up the tree,(walk fingers up child's
arm)
Into the
housey!(tickle child's
underarm)
Five Little Monkeys
(Begin with 5 fingers splayed and
palm away from you, swinging hand to rhythm of
verse...)
Five little monkeys swinging from a tree,
teasing mr. alligator, you can't catch me, you can't catch
me.
(whisper) Along comes mr. alligator, (Put palms together and slither hands
like an alligator)
quiet as can be, and
snapped that monkey right outta that tree! (louder, and clap hands
with the word SNAP)
(Repeat with 4,3,2,1
monkeys)
Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the
Bed
(Begin with 5 fingers splayed and
palm away from you, bouncing hand to rhythm of
verse...)
Five little monkeys
Jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head (hold up one finger, then rub
head)
Mommy called the doctor
and the doctor said,
"NO MORE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED!"
(Index finger out, shaking in
chastising manner)
Four little monkeys....
Five Little Puppies
Five little puppies were playing in
the sun. (hold up hands,fingers
extended)
This one saw a rabbit, and he began
to run. (bend down first
finger)
This one saw a butterfly,and he began to race.
(bend down secind
finger)
This one saw a cat,and he began to
chase. (bend down third
finger)
This one tried to catch his tail,and
he went round and round. (bend down fourth
finger)
this one was so quiet,he never made a
sound. (bend down
thumb)
Three Little Hot Dogs
(Place 3 fingers from your right hand
into the palm of your left, patting them up and down,
saying...
Three little hot dogs frying in the pan,
the pan got hot and one (hold up 1
finger)
went BAM! (clap on
"BAM")
(Place 2 fingers from your right hand
into your left hand...)
Two little hot dogs frying in the
pan,
the pan got hot and one (hold up 1
finger)
went BAM!(clap)
One little hot dog frying in the pan,
the pan got hot and one went
"'Wait, Wait! Put me on your plate and eat me!"
(If the child is in your lap this is
your cue to pretend to "eat her up" and tickle.
Or, if the child doesn't like to be tickled she can pretend to "eat
up" her finger in an exaggerated fashion.)
Doggie's
House
This is doggie's house.
(create an "O" sign by putting tip of
thumb and fingers together)
Is the doggie home?
Put
your finger in... (let child put finger in
hole)
Doggie's chewing a bone?
(close the "hole" lightly as if
nipping the child's finger)
Piggy on the
Railway
Piggy on the railway,
(pretend to pick up
stones)
Picking up stones;
Along
came an engine (bang fist against
palm)
And broke Piggy's
bones.
"Oh!" said Piggy, (raise hands in surprise and
anger)
"That's not fair."
"Oh!"
said the engine driver, (shrug shoulders and turn
away)
"I don't care!"
The
Ostrich
Here is the ostrich straight and
tall, (raise one arm for
ostrich)
Nodding his head above us
all.(use your raised wrist to 'nod' like
an ostrich head)
Here is the hedgehog prickly and
small, (hold hands together with fingers in
a panel)
Rolling himself into a ball.
(cup both hands into a
ball)
Here is the spider scuttling
around (turn one hand over and wriggle
fingers like a spider)
Treading so lightly on the
ground. (let fingers crawl on baby's arm or
leg)
Here are the birds that fly so
high, (interlock both thumbs while rest of
fingers spread out like a bird)
Spreading their wings across the
sky.
Here are the children fast asleep,
(pretend to be
asleep)
And in the night the owls do
peep, (ring eyes with fingers for owl
eyes)
Too wee too wee too!
Mousie
Mousie comes a-creeping,
creeping. (close fist and push index finger of
ther hand through)
Mousie comes a-peeping,
peeping. (push finger through until tip of
index finger just appears)
Mousie said, "I'd like to
stay, (wriggle index finger through the
"hole")
But I haven't time
today."
Mousie popped into his hole
(pull index finger suddenly out of
sight!)
And said, "Achoo!
I've
got a cold!"
Little
Rabbit
Little cottage in a wood,
(make roof of cottage with hands
pointing upwards)
Little man at a window stood,
(look through hands like holding
binoculars)
Saw a rabbit runny
by,(use 2 fingers to make a
rabbit)
Knocking at the door.
(mke fist to knock at imaginary
door)
"Help me! Help me! Help me!" he
cried, (shoot hands upward from shoulders
and down while rabbit is talking)
"See the hunters on their
way." (point)
Little Rabbit come inside,
(make "come" gesture with
hand)
You'll be safe with me."
(stroke hand and place both hands on
chest)
Round about
there
Round about there
(swirl your index finger around palm
of child's hand)
Sat a little hare,
A cat
came and chased him (walk fingers up child's
arm)
Right about there!
(tickle child's
underarm)
The Little
Bird
This little bird flaps its
wings, (flap outstretched fingers like wings
of a bird)
Flaps its wings, flaps its
wings, (lift hands still flapping as high as
you can
This little bird flaps its
wings, (lift higher and
higher!)
And flies away in the
morning!
