A chant: “What is it? What is it? Meow, meow, it’s a cat.

        What is it? What is it? Hop, hop, it’s a rabbit.

        What is it? What is it? Roar, roar, it’s a tiger.

RUN!!!”

     Classroom English: Stand up!—Up, up, up! Sit down!—Down, down, down. OK?—OK!

Goal:

90% kids can say the words when see according picture or action

90% kids can understand the question “What is it?” and give an answer with “It’s a…”

Every kid can follow the teacher and sing and do action with chant

Teaching steps:

1.       Greeting

l  Say “Hi, Hello!”, with animal-like voice. Pretend to say hello like a tiger and rabbit.

l  Encourage kids to say hello or hi with teacher’s name, “Hi, ________” give sticker to kids who can do so.

2.       Warm-up

l  Sing a warm-up song or chant. You can choose 1 or 2 songs or chants.

3.       Presentation.

l  Introduce the words one by one, using the key question “What is it?”

l  Use facial expression to draw kids’ attention.

4.       Practice.

l  Use rhythm, TPR, and games(Johnny Whoops, touching game, hammer game) to practice the words.

5.       Performance

Do a competition. (team on team, one on one) “What is it? It’s a…”

Sing and do with teacher altogether.

Sing and do with teacher again (try different teams, or pick stand-out students)

6.       Ending.

Sing goodbye song. “Goodbye cat, goodbye rabbit, goodbye tiger, GOODBYE. Goodbye teacher’s name, Goodbye teacher’s name, Goodbye teacher’s name, GOODBYE!”
