英文文法: 为什么“play the pipa”中间有“the”

很久很久以前 (可能是恐龙时代吧，哈哈), 所有 “一般” (generic) + “非特定” (non-specific) 的名词，不论可数 (countable) 、不可数(non-countable)、单数 (singular) 或双数(plural), 全部不需要冠词 (即 “零冠词Zero Article” – 不用 “a/an” 或 “the”).

在那时候，以下的全部都是正确:

1.      Lion is king of the jungle. (CORRECT)

2.      Air is essential to sustain lives of all living things. (CORRECT)

3.      Men, in general, are stronger than women. (CORRECT)

随着演变, 所有 “可数单数名词”, 不可以是 “零冠词”.

也即是说以上例子第一个是错的，一定要适当地加上 “a/an” 或 “the” 才行.

1.      Lion is king of the jungle (WRONG)
The lion is king of the jungle (CORRECT)

把这原理应用于你的例子, “I play pipa” 现代文法是错的。

你只能够说 “I play a pipa” 或 “I play the pipa”.

“A/an” 是任何一个. “The” 是一组中指定的一个。

A.     “a/an”
As a hobby, I play a pipa. (CORRECT)

B.     “the”

a.      Among all the musical instruments, I play the pipa. (CORRECT)

b.      We have a five-piece Chinese classical music band, and I play the pipa. (CORRECT)

有没有办法用 “零冠词” 于玩儿琵琶呢?

有, “activities” 可以用 “零冠词”, 即你说 “I watch football on weekends” (CORRECT) 而不是 “I watch the football on weekends” (WRONG).

应用于玩儿琵琶, 你可以说: “In my spare time, I adopt pipa-playing as a hobby.” (CORRECT)，即 “pipa-playing” 是”activity” 所以免受以上文法限制。

我私人意见是在以上情况, 说 “I play pipa as a hobby” 虽然不太正统， 但也不是如 “I plays pipa/He play pipa”那么罪大恶极。
