Admittedly,
it is somehow detrimental to language diversity when most people
all around the world just use one language to communicate with each
other. The disappearance of some minority languages is a good
example to show the adverse influence. However, this cannot only be
attributed to English. Instead, it is the resultant interaction of
many factors. In fact, using English as a global language is
advantageous for further development of world.

languages is a good example.
However, adoption of English as a common language should not be
blamed as the sole cause of their
demise. There are many other reasons, such as colonization of
cultures, catastrophic natural disasters, and genocides.
In fact,
using English as a global language is good for advancement of
civilization.

a.
The reason
why English can function as a global language is its political
dominance. (it is not political reason discussed next and it may
cause conflicts) English is the official language of more than 40
countries and the mother tongue of the people from over 10
countries including some developed countries like Britain and the
US, which play a vital role in economic area. Therefore, English
can not only function as other lingua franca to make communication
possible between people who do not share a native language or
dialect, but also boost the smooth running of international
trade.
A reason why English is functioning as a
global language is the political dominance of the British
Empire in the old
days.
Today English is the official
language of more than 40 countries and the mother tongue of over 10
nations including the two
economic powerhouses Britain and USA. Therefore, having English as
lingua franca, in addition to
facilitating communication between people with different linguistic
backgrounds, is also essential in
conducting international trade.

In
addition, compared with other languages, it is easier for people to
learn English. This is because, firstly, the pronunciations of
vocabulary are more easy to master. Unlike French or Russian, there
is no uvular consonant or alveolar consonant in English, And the
grammatical rules are less and more simple in English. Both of them
reduce the learning difficulty to a certain degree for most people
whose mother tongue is not English.
b.
Practically English appears to be the
easiest language in the world to learn. For example, pronunciation
of vocabularies is easier to
master. Unlike French or Russian, there is no uvular consonant or
alveolar consonant in English.
Comparatively grammatical rules are fewer and simpler in English
than other languages. Both of
them reduce learning difficulties to a certain degree for most
people whose mother tongue is not
English.

In
conclusion, although the use of English as a world language may
reduce language diversity to some extent, its politic dominance
guarantees humans further development while its relative simplicity
guarantees its easy accessibility. Therefore, it is conducive to
use it as a world language.
b.
In conclusion, although the use of
English as a world language can reduce language diversity to
some extent, yet its uses by
politically dominating countries and popular
literature/entertainment media establish its rightful place of
supremacy.
