“Say uncle”的意思可不是“叫叔叔”！不知道真是糗大了！

英语俚语使我们的口语表达更加地道，然而在学习英语俚语的过程中，我们总会犯各种错误，例如，我们今天要学习的“Say uncle”：

一看到“Say uncle ”，我们就会想要把它理解为“叫叔叔或叔叔说”，如果你真这么想的话，美国小孩都会嘲笑你的。

“Say uncle ”的来源：

1. 在英语国家里，小孩子打架的时候，谁占据了上风或打赢了，他就会让输的一方说“Say uncle”。类似中文里面的“快点叫爷爷，我就放过你”。如果要表示“从不认输或永不认输”，我们可以用“Never say uncle ”这个短语来表达。

I refused to say uncle no matter how they threatened me.

无论他们怎样吓唬我，我都不肯服输。

He never says uncle.他一向嘴硬，从不认错。

那“Throw in the towel”呢？

“throw in the towel”的字面意思是“扔毛巾”，引申义为“放弃和投降”。在拳击比赛中，当一方选手感到体力不支时，教练就会立即将一块毛巾投入赛场内，作为停止比赛的信号。之后，人们将扔毛巾这一举动默认为投降认输。所以，“throw in the towel”也就引申为“认输，放弃”的意思。
