Part I  Writing

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will by commenting on the humorous saying, “Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will

1.题目形式有变化。往年是2-3点中文提纲,而此次完全没有,而只是引用了一句幽默的话入题;

2.字数要求有变化。往年要求字数是至少120词,而此次要求120-180词之间,不能多,不能少;

1.字数要求基本不变。往年虽未说不能超过180词,其实一般也要控制在这个字数之内;

Part I Writing  写作

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled The Way to Success by commenting on Abraham Lincoln’s famous remark, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe”. You should write at least 150 words but not more than 200 words.

The Way to Success

Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe这句话的意思。

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Contentment Is the Key to Happiness by commenting on the famous saying, “A great obstacle to happiness is to anticipate too great a happiness.” You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180words.

Contentment Is the Key to Happiness

Contentment Is the Key to Happiness

It is human nature that people always seek happiness. Then what factors are necessary to achieve happiness? Some people hold the view that money is essential to happiness, therefore, they exert themselves to earn as much money as they can. Happiness, as far as I’m concerned, consists in contentment.

As the old saying goes, “A great obstacle to happiness is to anticipate too great a happiness.” Lots of people feel empty in spite of in possession of great wealth. Why? Because greed is a person’s trait. After he obtains something, he will become more eager to acquire more. If he fails to reach his goal, he will feel unhappy. By contrast, regardless of their poor life, some people live happily only because they are healthy, which is called contentment.

    In conclusion, contentment is the key to happiness. As long as people are satisfied with what they have possessed, happiness is just around the corner. 155

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled My View on Animal Welfare by commenting on the debate whether it is justifiable to meet the need of human beings at the expense of animalswell-being. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

My View on Animal Welfare

This year has been witnessing a dramatic campaign against withdrawing gall from living bears, which introduces the issue of animal welfare into public discussion. They come to realize that not only do bears suffer from the daily torment, but also other animals are being sacrificed to benefit human being.

On the one hand, a number of people take it for granted that human beings’ interests outweigh that of animals. Besides, they also assert that animals are not consciously aware and unable to experience poor welfare. On the other hand, others maintain that it’s selfish and cruel to take advantage of animalsregardless of their welfare for the sake of human beings. Instead of being regarded as inferior species to human beings, animals are born equal to men and thus entitled to enjoy undifferentiated treatment.

    In my view, it’s unrealistic to ban the use of animals in terms of medication, experiment and food production, however, it’s human’s obligation to minimize distress and pain involved in the procedures whenever possible. (173)
