教案School Life in the UK

1、Finish reading a magazine article about school life in the UK

2、Enable the students to learn to talk about school life and identify the differences between the school life in the UK and in China

3、Strengthen the reading strategy :skimming and scanning

4、Help the students learn how to talk about school life

1、Help the students to learn about the school life in the UK and get the students to talk about the differences in the school life between the UK and China

2、Help the students to learn to use some of the new words and expressions.

3、Help the students to learn to make an outline of a plan for their new school life .

教学难点

Since most of the students have never been to another countrysome of them even have never been to another cityit is a really tough task to make something far away vivid and easy to understand

1、Question—and— answer method to make the students interested in what they will learn

2、Fast/skimming reading to get the general idea of the text.

3、Careful reading /scanning reading to answer some detailed questions

4、Individualpair or group work to make all the students work in class

Step 1 self-introduction and brainstorming (3’)

The teacher first make a

Self -introduction

Encourage the students to volunteer to go to the front of the classroom to make a self-introduction or describe part of their junior middle school life

1.Self-introduction is necessary for them to get to know each other .

2.All the students have the opportunities to give their views and share other’s opinions. This kind of activity help to develop students’ imagination and creativity ,Meanwhile, a really good class atmosphere can be formed   

When we come to the title school life in the UkWhat do you expect to read in this passage ?

Step 2lead-in     (5’)

Show a flash about the school life in the UK, and then ask the students to describe some of the scenes in the video

T: Do you like the school life in the UK

T; Can you describe the school life in China after watching the flash ?

TCan you talk about some of the differences between Chinese and British life ?

 

S:I like it very much

S; Our homework is too much

S: It seems that their classes are loose, but in fact well organized .The teacher talks less, and the students do a lot  

When the multimedia is used, the students will be more interested in this topic .

To develop the students’ interest of learning English by anticipate this activity

Step3  Presentation   5’

 

T: Just now we have discussed the differences between high schools in our country and the UK. Now we are going to read a magazine article which is written by an exchanging student. She studied in the UK for one year. Now she gives a clear brief introduction about her school life there. Before we read the article, we are going to learn the reading strategies: skimming and scanning.

Skimming: to get a general idea of the article. Focus on the title, heading, captions, the first and last sentences of paragraphs, charts and pictures .

Scanning: to locate specific information about an article. Look for key words and phrases, dates and words in bold, italics or capital letters…

 

 

 

 

To get the students to have a clear idea of the reading strategy

Step 4. Fast reading   (4’)

Go through the passage as quickly as possible and find answer to the three questions:

1.How does Wei Hua feel about her life in the UK?

2.How long did Wei Hua stay in Britain?

3.What was the name of Wei Hua’s class teacher?

 

1.It’s a very enjoyable and exciting experience.

The students are supposed to get the main idea of this passage as quickly as possible

1widen their view 2 improve their English

3 learn to be independent and cooperate with others

4 learn about foreigner customs and culture

5 let the foreigners learn about China and attract them to invest in China

6 learn advanced technology Disadvantages:

1 cost a lot money and give a heavy burden to family

2 feel homesick all the time

3 form bad habits

4 stay in foreign country and refuse to come back

1.To let the students experience the practical English .

2.To help the students to learn and use the language through the activities, consolidate the language and improve the ability of using English

 

Step 6 Post-reading activities  10’

1. Pair work

T: Now you are a reporter from the school magazine, and have a chance to interview Wei Hua. What other information would you like to know about her life and study in the UK?

TSuppose your desk mate is Wei Hua, make a dialogue.

1. Complete parts D and E

2. Read the two articles in reading on pages 82 and 83 in workbook and answers the questions below them.

3. Daniel Adams will come to your school as an exchange student. Write a letter to him and introduce your school life to him.

4. Preview the following lesson.
