Unit 5 is about "A Place in Society " in which we studied two articles as usual. The first is concerned with the position one has within one's own culture while the second is some issue cross culturally.

   This unit reminds me of my own first encounter with the world at different stages, for example, the first time when I met my relatives, entered kindergarten, middle school, university, went to different cities, foreign countries, etc. Looking back at those first encounters with this unit in mind, I find some clashes of my own personal or family culture with a "foreign" culture. From those stages, I underwent a variety of changes, either in assimilation or in accomodation, in a lot of areas like perspectives, understanding, tastes, and even values. With years going by, I find that the "me " today has transformed tremendously, and I love the "me " now very much.
    The most important alteration in me is my understanding, (taste, perspective, values ). For example, ......
    My place in society is determined by my degree of own assimilation and accomodation with the world. I'd like to embrace whatever I see in the world that is encouraging, coorporative, constructive. Those things and ideas that tell us to divide, destroy, or kill are abhored by me. I chose to feel that the world provides me with a cozy place. No matter how disappointing sometimes the world is, we should not give up working incesstantly to make the worl a better place.
