从书法的角度来说，马英九的字体正规规范，功底深厚，同时从字中看得出来马英九练习过的碑贴很多，比如欧体、柳体、兰亭等等。马英九为人诚恳忠诚，并不恃才傲物，在他的办公室里挂着一副对联“黄金非宝书为宝，万事皆空善不空”，是马家祖训。

当然，也有人说马总统的墨迹是别人代笔。
