It was last Friday (18 of March), that Shanghai Tang organized in Beijing its fashion show named “Metamorphosis”

The fashion Show was outside, at the Mansion, and I should say that it was pretty cold. Twice, just before the fashion show started, the floor moved … I still don’t know the reason … but what it’s for sure is that the people started to freak out … Plus that night it was the full moon, the biggest since … lol, forgot when. Anyway …

Each season, Shanghai Tang presents an aspects of China’s rich culture on its continuing mission as the global ambassador of contemporary Chinese chic.

For Spring/Summer 2011, the focus is on the Miao, one of China’s ethnic minorities. They live predominantly in the hills around Southern China, and their profound respect for nature is reflected in the motifs, embellishments, and colours of their clothing (The butterfly, for example, is a mythical Miao symbol of metamorphosis and beauty, and is reinterpreted in delightful ways throughout this new collection).

By coincidence, I was in the Shanghai Tang café the other day in Shanghai. Here is the description given by the brand website:

The Shanghai Tang Café is an extension of the brand’s mission to deliver a lifestyle vision of modern Chinese chic.

It extends the distinctive Shanghai Tang’s vibrant, witty multi-sensory retail experience with an oriental sense of service into a full service café restaurant and bar that will please the most discerning taste palates.

It is a sophisticated offering of modern Chinese cuisine and innovative cocktails that reflects Shanghai Tang’s unique, vibrant energy, bold colours, witty humour and cultural richness.

Chef Jereme Leung is the Food & Beverage Consultant. Multiple award winning chef & former founding chef of the Whampoa Club at the 3 on the Bund is renowned for his innovative ‘New Chinese Cuisine’ style of cooking that respects the traditions of Chinese regional cuisine while pushing the envelope in terms of style & presentation. This spirit of reinventing of culture with modern sophistication is very much shared by Shanghai Tang and the Shanghai Tang Café. The décor features Shanghai Tang’s signature colours in vivid accents, Chinese cultural motifs, rich textures & Chinese craftsmanship such as silk, embroidery, lacquer, as well as other Shanghai Tang home products, enveloping the guests in a multi-sensory world of Shanghai Tang.
