Script <<Hua Mulan >>

Summary:

 Long time ago, there was a war in China.  The natives wanted to get the land back, which had belonged to them before.  However, the king of the nation didn't allow such a ridiculous thing, and the war finally broke.   Unfortunately, the odds were against China.  So the king decide to recruit soldiers.

      Unexpectedly, Mulan's father, who was old and weak, was chosen.  Knowing that her father was not equal to the mission, Mulan decided to dress herself as a man to join the army instead of her father.

      During the time in the army, she became acquainted with the captain, Li Shang, and she was deeply moved by his care for her.  After they won the war, she told the truth frankly to him, and Li Shang asked the king to spare her life for disguising herself as a soldier.

       In time, they fell in love with each other, got married and lived happily hereafter.

Scene I

Narrator:

Long time age, there was a war in China.....

Li Shang: Your Majesty, the Huns have crossed our northern border.

Majesty: Impossible! No one can get through the Great Wall! My people are more important than them first.

Li Shang: Han yu is leading them. We’ll protect your palace.

Majesty: Even if the odds are against us, we must keep going on.   Now, what we can do is recruit soldiers. Conscription notices through out all the provinces. Call up reserves and as many new recruits as possible.

Li Shang: Forgive me, your Majesty, but I believe my troops can stop him.

Majesty: No fault can be permitted; one man may be the difference between victory and defeat.

Li Shang: I’ve got it, your Majesty.

Scene II

Narrator: Well, our story started at a peaceful and beautiful village. A family with four members, father, mother, grandmother and their—Mulan!

Father: Mulan, how can you grow up? As a girl, you should be polite and quiet, graceful and respectful, then try to be…Are you listening, Mulan?

Mulan: Uh, I heard you, umm~~ what is it outside?

Father: Stay inside, Mulan.

Mulan: What's up?  Daddy, you look so pale,

Father: Nothing....

Mulan: Look!

Father: The Huns are coming; one man from every family must serve in the Imperial Army. Now it’s my turn, our Family! I’m ready to serve the Emperor.

Mulan: What... No! Father, you can’t go.

Father: Mulan, you dishonor me.

Mulan: Please, you’ve already fought for…You shouldn’t have to go! There are plenty of young men to fight for China!

Father: It is an honor to protect my country and my family.

Mulan: So you1ll die for honor.

Father: I will die doing what’s right.

Mulan: But if you…

Father: I know my place. It is your time learned yours.

(Mulan ran away crying)

Mulan: My father is old.  My brother is too young. But I'm a girl! What can I do? Oh, I can go to the army instead of my father. I look like a man. That’s a good idea!  I can't see the reason why a girl can't be a soldier to defend her own country.

Father: Mulan is gone! It can’t be true…Mulan! No… Ancesters, hear our prayer. Watch over Mulan.

Scene III

Narrator: Mulan began her life in the army. 

Li Shang: I just want you to follow three "A" s. The three "A" s are "Action, ability, and attack.”-----understand?

Mulan: Yes, sir.

Li Shang: Good...Dismissed. Soldiers, follow me!

Mulan: Ouch!

Li Shang: Are you out of breath for running for a short time? Are you O.K.?

Mulan: I'm all right.

Li Shang: Go to see the doctor and then take a rest under the tree.

Mulan: He is really a good guy.  I am wondering which girl will be lucky enough to marry him.(said quietly)

Li Shang: It’s time for dinner. This is for you. Okay, gentlemen, we are the swords of emperor, we were born to .No matter when, do remember the country, the sanctity, the honor. We are Chinese.

Mulan: Thank you. Sir!

Li Shang: Go and eat there.

Mulan: He is really a good man.  In order not to disappoint him, I'll do my best to become stronger.

 

Narrator:

 After a few months of hard training........

 

Mulan: Our enemies are coming back again. The Huns!

Li Shang: What?  Those barbarians are returning?  You destroyed the whole village, you Huns broke the peace. We will stop you even die. Hey, soldiers! Take up your weapon and follow me.  It's time to fight. Mulan, Come on. Hit his back will work.

Mulan: But…

Li Shang: Quick!

Mulan: OK!(放战斗音乐)

Narrator: A moment later…

Mulan: He’s wounded! Get help! Get help!  I'm sorry. I’m late to save you my kind general. Are you all right?

Li Shang: Why did you save me? 

Mulan: Because I love you .

Li Shang: What?

Mulan: In fact, I am a girl.

Li Shang: hold on, hold on.

(The doctor tells the true)

Mulan: I can explain. My name is Hua Mulan,I did it to save my father.

Li Shang: According to the law, a woman can't be a soldier.   What you have done is a big crime!  Have you ever thought of that?

Mulan: I know, but for my old father and young brother, I have to make such a decision.

Li Shang: Hum.....I'll try to save you. Don’t be sad, girl. Although…we are proud of you.

Scene IIII

Majesty: My brave soldiers.  Congratulations!  We are brought to glorious victory by my captain, Li Shang.  You deserve a good reward.   Come ahead, my hero!  Tell me what you want.

Li Shang: I want nothing except the soldier's life.  She is a girl, but she has saved us and the whole country.

Majesty: She is heroine.  Oh, I just can't wait to see her.

Li Shang: This is her.  She asks for your mercy because of her violation against the law.

Majesty: Why should I kill her?  She has become a good example for our people.  I should reward her instead of killing her. I’ve heard a great deal of you, Mulan. You stole your father’s armor, ran away from home, impersonated a soldier, deceived your commanding officer, dishonored the Chinese Army, and  you saved us all, you saved China, as a woman.

(Bow to Mulan)You are worth respecting.

Mulan: Thank you, your majesty. With all due respect, your Excellency, I think I’ve been away from home long enough.

Majesty: Then take this. So your family will know what you have done for China.

Li Shang: Um…you…You fight well.

Mulan: Oh, thank you.

Li Shang: Though this is a sudden proposal, would you marry me?

Mulan: I'm so glad to hear that.  But I have to go back home to ask my father first.  will you go to my hometown with me?

Li Shang: Of course, dear.

Mulan: Let's go.

Scene V

Mulan: Father, I'm back.

Father: Mulan, it's really you?

Mulan: Yes, it's a long time. Father! I’ve brought you the sword of Chan yu. It’s gift to honor the Hua family.

Father: The greatest gift in honor is having you for a daughter. Kid, we are missing you everyday.

Mulan: I’ve missed you too, father.(Hug)

Father: Who is the gentleman?

Mulan: This is General Li. (Turn to Li Shang) Would you like to stay for dinner?

Father :( Shout to him) would you like to stay forever?

Li Shang: Dinner would be great. Sir, can I have the honor to ask your permission to marry your daughter?

Father: Of course.  When are you going to get married?

Li Shang: Soon.

Father: How soon?

Li Shang: How about now?

Father: Great!
