Double Seventh Day, also called Chinese Valentine's day, is a romantic Chinese traditional festival, which is celebrated on the seventh evening of the seventh month on Chinese lunar calendar农历.

     It dates back to追溯 Han Dynasty. Its origin is people's love and worship崇拜 for nature.On this day it was said that girls and young women in the past would do the needlework穿针, dry clothes and books in the sunshine and so on. Many legends about the festival have disappeared, just leaving the famous story of Altair牛郎星 and Vega织女星.The story goes like this: Zhi Nv was said to be the youngest of seven daughters of the Queen of Heaven. she worked hard with her sisters to weave织 beautiful clouds in the sky. Niu Lang was a poor orphan cowherd孤儿牛倌, driven out of his home by his elder brother. They met each other and got married. They  had a son and a daughter and lived happily. Unfortunately, good days didn't last long. Having known this, the Queen and the God  separated them and took their daughter back. Niu Lang rushed to rescue his wife. When he was about to catch up with her, the Queen pulled out of a gold hairpin金簪 and made a strok划. Then the Milky Way银河 appeared and stopped Niu Lang. They stared at each other day and night. The magpies喜鹊 were moved and decided to get together to form a bridge across the Milky Way so that Niu Lang and Zhi Nv could meet each other on this day each year. 

    At night on this day, you sit outdoors and when the sky is dotted with点缀 stars, you can see the Milky Way from the north to the south. On each bank of it is a bright star, which is staring at each other from far.Children may also be told that they are not be able to see any magpies because they all left to form the bridge. If you stand under a grapevine葡萄藤, you probably overhear无意中听到 what Niu Lang and Zhi Nv are talking about.

    Today, the Double Seven Day has been listed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage国家非物质文化遗产. We should carry forward out traditions and pass the romantic story from generation to generation, wishing for a better life. 

Moments of tender love and dream 柔情似水，佳期如梦

so sad to leave the magpie bridge忍顾鹊桥归路

eternal love between us two两情若是久长时

shall withstand the time apart 又岂在朝朝暮暮
