Q: How did
you start your career with KPMG?
A: I was
awarded KPMG Singapore scholarship, which has a 5 years bond, to
pursue a Bachelor of Accountancy degree in Nanyang Technological
University of Singapore. As soon as I completed my tertiary
education, I started working full time in KPMG
Singapore.
Q: Can you
share with us the most difficult period of your career that you
went through and how you manage?
A:
I can’t remember any “most difficult” period of my career but
rather there will always be ups and downs. It is always my family
and colleagues (who are friends as well) who help me through the
difficult moments.
Q: What keeps motivated
on your job after all these years?
A:
It is the goals I set for myself at each phase of my career with
KPMG. For example, I set a goal to go for overseas secondment when
I first started my career in Singapore office. Indeed after 4 years
of my career, I went to London office for an 18 month secondment
which I truly enjoyed and learned a lot from that experience. After
returning from my secondment (and completing another 2 years
bond!!), I set my goal in pursuing a career in our China office. I
did and have not looked back since…
Q: How do you maintain a
good work-life balance with your busy working
schedule?
A:
It is never easy unless you have a family which understand you and
provide you with all the support. I am lucky to have my wife behind
me all these while including my decision to pursue a career in
China. I believe it is the quality of time that matters and I
maximise the time I have with my family during the
weekends.
Q: What advice you would
give to our younger managers and in-chargers to be effective
leaders?
A:
Always believe in yourself and lead by example.
