you’ll get soaked. If you don’t put on your raincoat, you’ll get
soaked.
注意 unless 与 if … not 的区别:虽然 unless 与 if … not 的意思一样,但 unless
Unless you try, you will never succeed. = If you don't try, you
will never succeed.
If he were not present now, I would go away.
If not his help, I would have
failed.
Unless
My baby sister never cries unless she is hungry.
I shall go there tomorrow unless I'm too busy.
Unless you go at once you will be late.
I couldn't have got to Slough in time unless I'd had a helicopter.
I shan't
go unless he asks me. 等于I shan't go if he does not ask me.
(Eckersley's A comprehensive English Grammar); You will fail unless
you work harder. 等于You will fail if you do not work harder. (A. S.
Hornby's The Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current
English).
I couldn't have got to Slough in time unless I'd had a
helicopter.
I couldn't have got to Slough in time
unless I'd had a helicopter."
I couldn't have got to Slough
in time if I'd not had a helicopter,
I did have a helicopter and I did get to Slough in time to commit
the murder.
Unless you had lent me a hand, I should not have fulfilled my
task.
= If you had not lent me a hand, I should not have fulfilled my
task.
可以改写为but...if, 但决不能用if...not去替代. I could
not have got to Slough, but I could have got to Slough if I had had
a helicopter.
I should not expect their help unless they were my
friends.
I Should not expect their help if they were not my
friends.
if:unless—448
If the water is pure,it will not need further treatment.
Unless the water is pure,it will need further treatment.
You can see him if it's urgent.
You can't see him unless it's urgent.
If you don't study hard, you will not pass the examina- tion.
Unless you study hard, you will not pass the examination.
If he has no objection,we will carry out the plan.
Unless he has some objection,we will carry out the plan.
If he weren't so silly he would understand what you have said.
Unless he were so silly…)
If I hadn't stopped her she would have jumped. (不说Unless I had stopped her…)
If you ever have any trouble, just let me know. (不说If you ever have some trouble…)
I won't phone you, unless something unforeseen happens.
If(you are)in need,please don't hesitate to let us know.
(可以省去“you are”) The baby is never peevish, unless(it is)sick. (可以省去“it is”)
