倫敦押韻俚語歷史悠久，但至今仍是生活上常用到的語言，Cockney乃指居住在London的居民，而Rhyming Slang則是指約2-3個字的組合的俚語，其俚語的涵意則與這2-3個字的最後一個字有相同的押韻，但特別的是，押韻俚語幾乎只用俚語中的第一個字，反而把原本押韻的字給刪掉了！

Example

April Showers = Flowers (花) 在此，Shower 和Flower 押韻，使用時，僅用其第一個字 April，如此一來， April亦即代表花了.
例句：San Francisco is known for its Aprils. 舊金山以花盛名.

另一個特點，押韻俚語常常出現與”人，動物或事物”有關的字彙，那是因為此種俚語原來的目的是不要讓人很容易猜出其俚語的意義，因為俚語的始祖乃來自於在監獄裏或小群社區或團體使用的專用”密語”！

＊以下介紹一些現今仍實用的 Cockney俚語給大家參考:

Bacon and Eggs = Legs 腿	Look at that girl in the miniskirt. She’s got great bacons. 看那個穿迷你裙的女孩. .她的腿真美啊！
Barnet Fair = Hair 頭髮 (註:Barnet是個節日)	You look different today. Did you have your barnet cut? 你今天看起來不太一樣. 你剛剪了頭髮嗎?
Boat Race = Face 臉	Look at the boat on that woman! She’s beautiful. 看看那女人的臉,她真美呀.
Brown Bread = Dead 死亡	If you don’t pay my money back, you’ll be brown bread. 如果你不把錢還給我,你可死定了.
Bull and Cow = Row 吵架	My girl friend and I always have a bull when I forget her birthday. 一旦我忘了我女朋友的生日,我們總免不了大吵一架.
China Plate = Mate 伙伴	We’ve known each other for years. He’s my best china. 我們認識很久了. 他是我最好的伙伴(朋友).
Dog and Bone = Phone 電話	Get on the dog and order some pizza. 打電話叫pizza吧.
Donkey’s Ear = Years 許多年,很久了	I haven’t seen him in donkey’s, but we talk on the phone sometimes. 我很久沒看到他了,但我們有時候會打電話聯絡.
Loaf of Bread = Head 頭, 頭腦	If you want to be successful, you need to use your loaf. 如果你想要成功, 你該多用點腦子.
Pork pies = Lies 謊言	You shouldn’t believe him because he is always telling porkies. 你不該相信他,因為他總是說謊.
Rabbit and Pork = Talk 說話	It’s impossible to stop my Auntie from rabbiting on and on. 要讓我的阿姨停止喋喋不休是不可能的事.

Arthur Bliss = Piss 小便	Where’s the loo? I need an Arthur. 廁所在那兒?我很內急.
Auntie Ella = Umbrella 雨傘	It looks like it’s going to rain, so take your Auntie Ella. 看樣子就要下雨了,帶著你的傘吧.
Bees and Honey = Money 錢	I’m a little low on bees and so I need to borrow some. 我的手頭有點緊,我得借點錢.
Bird Lime = Time 時間	I’ve lost my watch so I don’t know the bird. 我的手錶掉了,所以我不知道時間.
Bo-Beep = Sleep 睡覺睡眠	I’ve been up all night, so I need to get some Bo-peep. 我整晚沒睡, 我真的需要去睡覺.
Bubble Bath = Laugh 笑大笑	We always have a bubble with Mike, because he’s such a funny guy. 只要Mike在,我們總是開懷大笑,他真是有趣的傢伙
Calvin Klein = Fine很好 (註:Calvin Klein凱文克來是知名品牌)	After the accident I was Calvin, except for a few bruises. 除了一些淤青之外,意外事故後我大致還好.
Car and Scooter = Computer 電腦	That old car and scooter needs to be fixed. 那台老舊的電腦該修理修理了.
Cash and Carried = Married 結婚	We’re going to get cashed at the church. 我們就要在教堂結婚了.
Cat and Mouse = Home 家	Do you want to come round my cat for dinner? 要來我家吃個晚餐嗎?
Currant Bun = Son 兒子	His wife gave birth to a new currant. 他老婆剛生了個兒子.
Horse and Cart = Fart 放屁	What’s that smell? Did you horse and cart? 那是什麼味道? 你放屁嗎?
Jack Jones = alone單獨孤單 Jack Jones是一首歌詞中的主角名字	I went to the fashion show all Jack. 我一個人去參加服裝秀.
Nuclear Sub = Pub 酒吧	Let’s go down the nuclear for a beer. 我們去酒吧喝啤酒吧.
Oxford Scholar = Dollar 錢,美金	I have to change these pounds to scholars if I go to America. 如果我去美國的話,我得把英鎊換些美金.
Uncle Ted = Bed 上床睡覺	I’m knackered（tired）, so I’m off to Uncle Ted. 我真是累翻了,所以我要去睡覺了.
You and Me =Tea 茶	The English love a good cup of you and me. 英國人愛喝杯好茶.
