Dear Sir or Madam,
I am Jiehong Kong, the PhD student at department of finance and management science, NHH. I am also the president of Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Bergen (CSSAiB).
As we all know, on May 12, 2008, an extremely catastrophic earthquake happened in Sichuan province, China. The quake measured 8.0 on the Richter scale and the death toll is rising steadily. So far, almost 70,000 people were killed and more than 10 million people are affected directly. So many people lost their lives, their families, and their friends. Cities become ruins and people are in deep sorrow!
But we never give up! In China, from the government to the civilian, everybody tries their best to help the people hurt in the disaster! Life is priceless! We are trying our best to save anyone. Our international friends also show their concerns and give us generous supports to help China conquer this disaster. Norwegian government has already donated 20 million Kroners for the earthquake. Some big Norwegian companies have also donated a lot. On behalf of CSSAiB, I express our sincere thanks to them.
As Chinese, though we study abroad, we are still tied up with our motherland and our people. We mourn for those who died, bless for those who suffered, thank for those who give help. More importantly, we want to do something specific and practical. Therefore, on 30th -31st May, cooperating with Kirkens Nødhjelp and Bergen Kinesiske Kristne Fellesskap, we will hold an activity at downtown to mourn the victims in the earthquake in China and to call for donation for the survivors to rebuild their families.
