近日，陈冠希重返娱乐圈的舆论引起不小关注，很多人说他食言，他自己虽然只是敷衍说已经是4年前的事情了，或者说只是在大陆活动。但是我们仔细分析一下他当时的原话会发现，他可能真的从来没说过要永远退出娱乐圈。

       2008年2月21日，陈冠希在记者会上公开致歉并宣布将无限期地退出香港娱乐圈。其原文表述如下：I will be away from Hong Kong entertainment indefinitely, there is no time refrain. 这句话中所用的词是“indefinitely”, “indefinitely”一词在词典中的解释是“不确定地，无限期地；模糊地”。在内地的新闻媒体上，普遍翻译成永远。而事实上“indefinitely”不等同于“forever”。因此，陈冠希当时就并没有选择一个非常绝对的词，还是为自己留有很多余地的。

       其实“Indefinitely”这个词在老外写的合同中也常常出现，同样我们在合同中也不能把它简简单单地翻译成永远。“Indefinitely”一词出现后，往往后面会附有相应条件，在满足一定的条件时这个期限可能会终止。就像刑法中所说的“无期徒刑”一样，我们都知道“无期徒刑”不会真的没有期限，永远服刑。因为法律中的其他条款对此有了特殊规定，满足这个规定后，这个期限就自然终止了。

       同样的例子还有，我们劳动合同法中“无固定期限劳动合同”。如“本合同为无固定期限劳动合同。”我们常常翻译为“This Contract is an indefinite-term employment contract.”其实虽然是无固定期限劳动合同，但是满足《劳动合同法实施条例》第18条规定的十三种情况中的任何一种情况，劳动者可以解除。满足第19条规定的十四中情况中的任何一种情况，用人单位可以解除。因此无期限往往在法律或者合同本身另有规定的情况下，在满足该条件时，期限会终止。

       我们常常会在合同的开头，看到对本合同所用词汇的定义。其中有的也会对Indefinite这样的词汇进行定义。

       例如：Indefinite term: beginning on [dd/mm/yy] and ending with the occurrence of conditions of termination as prescribed by law or stipulated in this Contract;

       当然有些合同在该条款中会直接规定例外情形。

       例如1：Save as required by law, governmental decree, any applicable stock exchange rules, any other applicable regulations or any official action, any confidential information shall remain secret indefinitely and no announcements shall be made with regard this transaction, other than a press release approved by the Parties. (other than 后面就是效力可以终止的条件)

       除非法律法规另有规定，任何相关的交易规则、任何其他相关规定或者政府行为以及任何相关机密信息都应当无期限的处于保密状态，不得透露任何关于此交易的信息。但是双方同意通过媒体发布的除外。

       2：The joint Venture Term shall commence on the Establishment Date and shall continue for an indefinite period of time until terminated pursuant to Article 23 hereof.

       除依据合同23条规定终止外，合资企业从设立之日起无期限经营。

       我想陈冠希的心里的想法是I will be away from Hong Kong entertainment indefinitely until I want to come back.

       当然如果法律法规和合同其他条款都没有设定期限终止的条件，那这个期限可能真的就是无限的了。

       举个例子：Clauses1,2,7 inclusive shall survive any termination or expiry of this Agreement and continue indefinitely. 本协议终止或期满后，1,2,7条仍然有效并将无期限生效。
