    Dragon Head-Raising Day
Dragon Head-Raising Day is a. traditional Chinese festival. It falls on the second day of the second lunar month. In the year 2011, it's on March 6. On the day in old times, people put ashes into kitchens and around water vats This was to “take the dragan into the house”. On this day people eat noodles, dumplings and deep fried pancakes. All the day's foods are named after dragons. For example, people eat “dragon whisker noodles” and dumplings called “dragon
teeth”. In some old Chinese stories, dragons have power over the wind and rain. They often bring rain to the world on the second day of the second lunar month. It is said that after that day there will be more and more rain. This is why the
day is often called “Spring Dragon Day”. It was hoped that with the help of the dragon, farming would be easier and the autumn would bring a good harvest It is also said that a haircut during the first lunar month brought bad luck to the
uncles in a family. That is why you still see many people getting their hair cut on Dragon Head-Raising Day.
