At some point in life, we all have to face a question: "What do you want to do when you grow up?” At the age of 10, she wanted to be a writer. When she was 12, she started to learn English as most Chinese students would. Her curiosity and personality led her in many directions.  She desired to be a tour guide: traveling around the world, exploring different cultures and making friends with anyone regardless their races, nationalities, and ages.  Those ambitious goals motivated her to learn English and read western philosophies.

Like most Chinese students, she was good at reading and writing, but she wasn’t proud of her spoken English.  Opportunity to practice her oral English was not abundant, but she found ways to make it work. She took advantage of opportunities to improve her conversational skills in English.  Her efforts did pay off in a big way. At the first anniversary of her arrival in the US, she was able to communicate with Americans freely, listen to radio and music without struggles as most foreigners would. After two years of her life in the US, she became an advanced tutor at a community college. She was able to help American students with their homework. After obtained her associate degree in business administration, she decided to be in sales.  During that period, she had the most gains in personal development. She got to know some of the best business philosophers.  Brian Tracy taught her that “all successful men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.” Jim Rohm changed her attitudes towards asking.  He says: "Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you do not go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won't laugh at you."

She did well in sales, but deep inside her, she wanted to become a CPA.  She returned school to get the further education necessary to meet the CPA requirements. Due to other commitments, it took her a lot longer to fulfill the educational requirements for the CPA certification. Once she was able to pursue her goals, it didn’t take her long to finish the CPA and CMA (certified Management Accountant) exams. Maybe, she was a little proud of her academic achievements: she passed her CPA and CMA exams on the first attempt and by self-study. Today, she is a business owner and serving on the Finance and Treasury Management Committee and Task Force of the Illinois CPA Society.  The Society serves to regulate the accounting industry and help accounting/finance professionals to keep up with regulatory changes, latest trends, and the best business practices.
