17.   How to relax ourselves

    The society is developing faster and faster.  And our work pressure, study pressure and life pressure become bigger and bigger.  At the same, the entertainment and sports activities are also more colorful.  It’s very important to receive all kinds of different pressures that the society gives us.  We are middle school students.  All of us are in a benervous study life.  How can we relax ourselves?  I think there are two ways to do so.

    First, we must listen to the teachers carefully in the class and make good use of time.  If we listen to the teachers carefully, we can finish our homework easily and after class we can have a good time.  On the other hand, if we use the time better, we can learn well and fast and don’t need to take more time to learn the general knowledge lessons. Still I have two ways to make good use of the time.  For example, when we are asked to recite one of our Chinese texts, we must finish it in 10 minutes or we have to give our partners ten Yuan each.  If you do like this, you are able to recite the lessons as soon as you can.  To other science subjects, like math exercises, we need not do every single problem if they are the same.  That will waste a long time and have no significance.  We just need to choose some models, and only remember the way to approach them.  We can use less time to do more exercises.  This can improve our study result.  And we can have longer time to get relaxed.

    Second, everyone has his own hobbies.  When we don’t need to learn, we can develop our hobbies.  For example, if you like playing ping pong, you can play it after class.  When you are free, you can play it more time.  Day after day, year after year, your ping pong skill will become better and better.  Perhaps your hobby can help you become famous in your future life.  And you will have a good future.

    Now I’m happy that I have told you all I know about how to get relaxed.  I hope you can do like that.  Will you?

 

18.    How to Relax Ourselves?

    In the modern world our material life is becoming better and better.  The spiritual life is more colorful than ever before.  But our life is becoming critical and emergent.  To learn to live is an important theme to adjust the modern society.  Now let me tell you some ideas to relax yourself.

    Firstly, if your brain is tired, you had better not do anything about mind.  You should go out for a walk instead, to breathe the clear air or go to a club to do some useful exercise.  And if you have a pet, like a dog, or a goldfish, having a look at it. Feeding it or walking it may release you.  They may grow happily and healthily day and day.  You will be happy, too.

    Secondly, if you feel tired, you can sit before the computer to get on line to relax yourself.  Sending an e-mail to your friends with best wishes.  You can also make net friends to tell him some of your depression, play some funny games.  If you are interested in the internet, you can skim every net site to look up new things.  There, you may listen to the music, such as classical music, traditional music, jazz music or rock’s roll music, only you like.  You may admire the new time writers’ new works.  You can also see a wonderful film.  In a word, you may learn more knowledge and know more information.  You can not only relax yourself but also make your eyes open.  Why not do that?

    When I am tired, I often sit outside, looking at the white clouds and the blue sky. And then I often look back into my childhood.  How interesting it is!  Sometimes I play with my pet dog "Xiao Xiao".  It always gives me much laughter.  And there are also some other ways to relax myself, such as playing table  tennis, swimming and many other interesting things.

    All of the above is good for us.  We relax ourselves in order to learn and work better.  We have stepped into the 21st century.  The youth of us is the new century's talents.  We should make great contribution to our country and the whole world with the spirit of our self-confidence and work hard to create a bright and colorful future!

19.  Language Learning

Dear Hope,

Don’t be worried!  Take it easy! You are right.  English is a very useful and popular language in the modern world now.  Many people are working hard at it.  In fact, to learn English well is not   too difficult.  You have heard the proverb “Nothing in the world is impossible if you put your heart into it”, aren't you?  If you stick to practicing English, you will learn it well.

    There are many ways to learn English, like talking, writing and so on.  The best way of learning a language is to use it, thinking something in English, keeping a diary in English, talking in English. In a word, try to use English as much as possible. It’s the best way to do it like that. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes when you talk with others in English.  Sometimes others may speak so fast that you can’t understand them.  But if you keep your sense of humors, you can always have a good mood at the mistakes you have made.  Don’t be angry if people seem to be laughing at your mistakes.  It is much better for people to laugh at your mistakes than to be angry because if they are angry they don’t understand what you have said.  The most important rule for learning English is “Don’t be afraid of making mistakes.  Everyone makes mistakes.  Enjoy losing face.”  Speak English greatly, you will speak it better and better, and the English grammar will become easier to you.  Try to do it in this way; I believe that you will learn English well in the near future.

20.    An e-mail

Dear Hope,

When I see your e-mail, I want to write a letter to you at once because I also have the same experience as you. I know English is a very useful language in the modern world now, and I know that more than 400 million people are using it as their first language in the USA, the Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.  English is very widely used in business and other communications, so we must learn English well.  But it's difficult as you say in your e-mail "I'm afraid of talking with others in English and the English grammar is really difficult for me".  I quite agree with you.  You know, although I have learned English for more than two years, my English knowledge level is still at Grade One.  I couldn't really understand it until I entered Grade Three, when I began to know a little English.  I'll tell you as much as I can.  I hope it can be useful to you.

   English is not our first language, so whenever we are we should particularly mention the word "more".  What does the word "more" mean?

    1. Listening more.  Listen to the teacher carefully in class.  Don't miss anything important that the teacher tells us. 

    2. Speaking more.  To learn English well, you must speak up.  Don't be shy.  Don't be worried if you say something wrong.  The best way to learn English well is to say it again and again until you can get it right.

    3. Reading more.   Reading can help you enbroad and enrich your knowledge to open your eyes.  So much has been explained in usual books.

   4. Writing more.  Write words, write phrases, write sentences still write down the questions if you don't understand in class.  Please remember to write them down surely so that you can ask your fellow students or your teacher for help after class.  But "Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today" or the questions will be gathered more and more, you will dislike solving them.  Trying to write something in English is also a good way to practice your English.

    Of course you can also use many other different ways to learn English.  Trying more ways may help you to learn English faster, and it will improve your English.

    It is also important to learn the English grammar.  It is very difficult, too.  We can not learn it well in one or two days.  But we can learn it slowly.  "Little by little the bird makes its nest."  We can learn a little each day.  If we do in this way, day after day, year after year, to learn English well is not a difficult thing.

    I know this saying "If you do less than others, your value will not win higher than others."  Having confidence in you is the first step on the road to success.  We young generations should believe in ourselves and never give up.  "Nothing in the world is difficult for one who has a willing heart."  I am sure that you can learn the English language well.

    All above is my shallow opinion and experience.  Perhaps it will be useful to you in some what in your English study.  Let's have a competition and see who can learn English better.

21.  The  Problem  Of  the  Resources

Dear Jim,

    Thanks for your last letter.  These weeks I am not very happy because I recognize that making rational use of resources is very important.  Do you agree with me?

    We often see such kinds of things: The tap is not tightened up to let the water drip down continuously.  When we wash our clothes, we always use too much water.  So the water is wasted.  In the daytime, the office is always lit brightly.  The air-conditioner is on all the time, no matter what the weather is like.  They are serious problems.  Now I only take water for example.   Because of the shortage of water, the Chinese government is trying to take the southern water to the northern part.  And it needs quite a lot of manpower and material resources as well as time and enough money.  Yet in our area with relatively enough water, we waste the precious resources!  It is not a suitable thing. Therefore, we must save our limited water.

    Nowadays all kinds of natural resources are becoming less and less.  And it is an inevitable choice for all the countries throughout the world to economize resources and put them to rational use.  There is no shirking the responsibility for us new time students.  Whenever I see a loosen tap I screw it tightly either in my living area or in the school, or still in other places. When I do my washing, I try to use less water to wash as many clothes as I can.  We often sweep the campus before breakfast.  I often

sprinkle the used water on our sanitation area.  And many other boarders do the same as I do.  I am a math subject delegate, often carrying my classmates' homework into or out of the teacher's office.  Whenever I see a lit-light in the daytime, I always turn it or them off.  Sometimes I turn off the road light or the light in the washing room early in the morning.

22.  Saving Water

    There was once an ad on the TV in the past which is about a mother and a son.  When they washed apples in the mother's working place the mother said, "Can you make the apple clean to use so little water?"  The son said "Mum, please save the water."  Yet the mother said, “We are now using free(公家的)water.”But when the boy also wash an apple at home, the mother told him to save water.  And seeing the tap loosen, she screwed it tightly, saying, “This is our own water.  We must save it."  The kid puzzled, "Isn't the water in our home and in the office the same?"

    The mother's action was wrong.  We should not learn from her.  In our daily life, everyone must save water, because as the world population increases, people in the world all drink water and water is becoming less and less.  We must think about our children.  If we don't save water, our children may have no water to drink.

    Let's save the limited water resources together!

23.    How  to  study  English  well?

    You may ask me: Why do I have to study English?    My answer is quite simple----I study English because English is very important and useful.

    English is the most widely used language.  English is spoken in the USA, the Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.  English is very useful for business, education, information and many other aspects.

    How to study English well?  First, I think interest is very important.  If you are interested in English, English will become your good friend.  Second, we should listen to more materials in English; Try to say as much English as possible, either in class or after class; We should read more English materials, like stories and magazines; Keep writing English diaries, singing English songs and so on so forth.  In a word, we should try to use the English language as a stool in our daily lives.

    If we study English well, we can communicate with people from all over the world.  We can tell them about our culture, art, economic development.  And we can also learn more science and technology from other countries.

    English is one of the most important languages.  It is not easy to master.  Since there is no short cut, we must study hard at it.

24.   My Future

    Dream, a word lets people excited about.  Everyone has their dreams.  If their dreams come true, they will be happy and exciting.  But different people have different dreams.  My dream is to be a high school teacher.

    To be a high school teacher has been my dream, because I think getting together with children is a very happy thing.  Teachers can talk about every question in class.  Any student can come up with his thoughts to discuss with his classmates.  After class I can play games with the children in the schoolyard.  How an interesting thing that would be if I were really a high school teacher!

    Our country is in shortage of teachers.  This is because to be a teacher is to do very hard work.  And teachers earn very little money.  Many people do not like to do so, but I have made up my mind to be a teacher and set my heart into the education work when I grow up.

    No matter what will happen in the future and what my life will be like in the future,

as a new time student, I must hold today, keep working hard.  I believe deeply that my future is not a dream.  Still my dream will surely come true because I know that teachers must be needed in our future life!
