一、awake的用法

1. 醒着的(尤指刚要睡觉和刚睡完觉)(not asleep, esp immediately before and after sleeping)

(1) 作表语。例如：

They aren’t awake yet. 他们还没醒呢。

Are the children still awake? 孩子们还没睡着吗?

They’re wide (ie fully) awake. 他们精神着呢(毫无睡意)。

(2) 作宾语补足语  例如：

The noise was keeping everyone awake. 喧闹声吵得大家都睡不着。

(3) 作后置定语 例如：

He was the only person awake at the moment. 他是那时唯一醒着的人。

2. 对某事物觉察到的；意识到的；警觉的 (conscious or aware of sth )

作表语。例如：

Are you fully awake to the danger you’re in? 你充分意识到自己所处的危险了吗?

二、awake的搭配

1. 醒着的

(1) fully / thoroughly / scarcely / wide awake。例如：

By now, the baby was wide awake. 现在孩子还完全醒着。

(2) hardly  / barely  / only half awake 例如：

It was very early and I was only half awake. 天很早，我半睡半醒。

(3) still awake。例如：

The children were still awake when we went out.，我们走了出去时，孩子们还醒着。

(4) be / lie awake。 例如：

He lay awake in his bed. 他醒着躺在床上。

(5) come / jerk awake。例如：

Claudia came awake slowly. 克劳迪亚慢慢醒了。

Stephen jerked awake from a nightmare. 斯蒂芬猛地从噩梦醒来。

(6)  keep / remain / stay awake。 例如：

He was struggling to stay awake.  他努力保持清醒。

(7)  jerk / jolt / nudge / shake sb awake。例如：

A few hours later Benjamin shook me awake. 几个小时后本杰明把我晃醒。

(8)  keep sb awake。例如：

The noise had kept her awake. 噪音使她睡不着。

注：awake作后置定语，作前置定语时用waking。

2. 意识到的

awake to 例如：

We must awake to our responsibilities. 我们一定要认识到自己的职责。

We are fully awake to the dangers of the situation. 我们充分意识到局势的危险。

三。awake的正误用法

■护士进屋时他就醒了。

误：He awoke up when the nurse entered the room.

正：He awoke when the nurse entered the room.

析：awake(醒来)通常不与副词 up 连用。比较：wake up(醒来)。

■他们还没意识到形势的严重性。

误：They haven’t yet awoken at the seriousness of thesituation.

正：They haven’t yet awoken to the seriousness of thesituation.

析：awake 用作动词，用于本义，表示“醒来”、“唤醒”，可以是及物或不及物动词，但用于引申义，表示“认识到”、“意识到”时，总是不及物动词，若要后接宾语，总是用介词 to。

■我当时完全是醒的。

误：I was very awake then.

正：I was wide awake then.

析：awake(醒着的)用作形容词时是表语形容词，要加强其语气，可用 wide, fully 等修饰，通常不用 very 修饰(偶尔可见这样用，但学生应试时应避免)。

四。wake waken awake awaken 的用法与区别
这四个词的含义和用法区别不大, 常有交义, 但有些语法家认为, 如果后接直接宾语, 应当用"awaken", 而不用"wake" (书面语), 而"awaken"则多用於引申意义。 

wake
 (1) = "醒" 
e.g. I wake up at six every morning. 
e.g. He woke to find himself in the hospital. 
e.g. Peter was too tired to wake at the usual time. 
e.g. Has the baby waked (woken) yet? 

(2) = "叫醒"; "吵醒"; "引起" 
e.g. Please wake me at six. 
e.g. I'm afraid of waking her. 
e.g. The voice waked me out of a sound sleep. 
e.g. The incident woke memories of the war years. 

waken:- [用法和"wake"基本相同, 但在有直接宾语时用"waken"而不用"wake"。 
= "弄醒"; "吵醒"; "唤醒" 
e.g. She wakened the baby with a kiss on his cheek. 
e.g. I was wakened early by the shouts of my neighbor. 
e.g. Nature seems to be wakened from a dead sleep. 


awake: 
= "惊醒"; "吵醒"; "意识到"; "发现"; "醒" 
e.g. The noise of the explosion awoke me. 
e.g. He was awaked by loud cries. 
e.g. I slowly awoke to the danger that threatened me. 
e.g. He awoke to find himself famous.

e.g. Are you awake yet? 
e.g. He was fully awake to the importance of the economic development. 

awaken: 
= "弄醒"; "使意识到" 
e.g. A knock on the door awakened me. 
e.g. She was awakened by the barking of a dog. 

["awaken"常用於"引申意义"] 
e.g. It awakened millions to the danger of fascism. 
e.g. His stealth awakened my suspicion. 
e.g. Their national spirit was awakened.
