Tensions -- Use Them or Lose
Them
You can turn tensions into springboards by
exercising possibility thinking. Start each day with the
Possibility Thinker's Creed: "When faced with a mountain I will not
quit. I will keep on striving until I climb over, find a pass
through, tunnel underneath, or turn the mountain into a gold mine
with God's help." Do this and you'll cash in on tension when it
crashes in on you!
Go to the sea and watch the rough surf roll in.
You will see people, tense, tight, rigid, bracing themselves for
the fierce slap of the wave that is about to crash over them. More
often than not, they are sent stumbling and sputtering into the
foamy shallows as the wave wins out! Off in the distance you will
see a young brown-skinned lad lazily paddling on a surfboard.
Relaxed, he floats in harmony with the mounting swells that rise,
forming the crest of a wave that grows now into a gentle giant
about to break into a mad dash for the shore carrying on its broad
shoulders the poised, confident and trusting young surfer, who has
long ago learned not to fight the wave but ride it!
In the mountains of California you will see a
small bird, wings extended seemingly floating, suspended in space,
unmoving forward or aft. Almost motionless, it seems stuck in
space. It's leaning against the wind, of course, using its tension
as support. The bird barely moves its wings. It is resting on a
strong wind current that sustains and upholds it. The bird does not
struggle against the wind: it uses it!
Tensions can disintegrate you, or they can
motivate you! They can make or break you. Under their power you
will blow up or grow up! They can be weights or they can be made
into wings. They can shake you up or they can take you up out of
your rut!
The difference is a choice - a decision. Yours!
Lord, when faced with a mountain I will not quit. I will keep on
striving until I climb over, find a pass through, tunnel
underneath, or turn the mountain into a gold mine with your
help.
