       Across the Field Creeps Grass

Across the field creeps grass,

On whose blades the dews gleam.

There comes bonnie lass,

Whose watery eyes beam.

As this beauty meet,

My heart feels fondly sweet.

Across the field creeps grass,

On whose blades the dews shine.

There comes bonnie lass,

With eyes clear and brows fine.

As this beauty meet,

have beauteous treat.

The Creeping Grass

Afield the creeping grass
With crystal dew o'erspread,
There's a beautiful lass
With clear eyes and fine forehead.
When I meet the clear-eyed,
My desired's satisfied.

Afield the creeping grass
With round dewdrops o'erspread,
There's a beautiful lass
With clear eyes and fine forehead.
When I meet the clear-eyed,
Amid the grass let's hide!

Upon the Wild Grass Green

Upon the wild, grass green
Enjoys the dewdrops clean.
A fair, fair maid comes by,
With bright, bright speaking eye.
O meeting her's so sweet,
My heart forgets to beat.

Upon the wild, grass green
Embraces th' dewdrops clean.
A fair, fair maid comes by,
With shining bright, bright eye.
O meeting her's so great,
She really is my mate.

Sincere, Sincere Seemed You

Selected from The Book of Poetry, Tr. Iceiron

Sincere, sincere seemed you,

"For silk I'd truck this cloth."

For silk- it was not true:

You came to seek my troth.

I saw you go your way,

Across the Qi River clean.

"I'm not meant to delay,

You have no go-between.

Don't be annoyed, dear mate,

In fall there'll be the date."

Oft climb the wall did I,

How yearning was my eye.

Tears, tears did drowned my eye,

When not see you could I.

When I could see you here,

I laughed, I spoke, in cheer.

"Divine, divine, my dear!

Prediction good we’d hear.

Drive here your cart by horse,

With dowry I am yours.”

When mulberries looked green,

So lush the leaves were seen.

"O turtledoves, O don't,

Don't eat the mulberries!

O maidens young, O don't,

Don't love any man please!

Men who indulge in love

Can escape as they please;

Yet girls indulged in love

Can never be at ease!"

Now mulberry's decayed,

The yellow leaves do fade.

Since I became your bride,

I've lived poor life for years.

Across the Qi River wide,

My cart screen's soaked with tears.

There's nothing wrong I've done,

But your behaviors ill.

An ever-changing one,

You maltreat me at will.

三岁为妇,靡室劳矣;

For years I've been your wife,
None day do I not moil.
From dawn till night my life
None day not filled with toil.
Now what you want you've got,
So rough to me you'd be.
My brothers know that not,
They often sneer at me.
My thoughts to my state bad
Do make me really sad!

Our "loving till old" vow
Brings me but deep, deep rue.
My river of rue now
Has o'erflown its shores two.
Childhood did see us both
Talk, smile, with sweet, sweet glee.
Who knew your deep-sworn oath
One day forsworn would be?
O the forsworn won't last,
Let all past be the past!

The Wind and Rain

Chill, chill the wind and rain;
Drear, drear the cocks do cry.
Now I see you again,
Not be all right can I?

Cold, cold the wind and rain;
Sad, sad the cocks do cry.
Now I see you again,
Not be all fine can I?

Gloomy the wind and rain;
Ceaselessly the cocks cry.
Now I see you again,
Not be o'erjoyed can I?

Wind and Rain

The wind and rain are chill;
The crow of cocks is shrill.
When I've seen my man best,
Should I not feel at rest?

The wind whistles with showers;
The cocks crow dreary hours.
When I've seen my dear one,
With my ill could I not have done?

Gloomy wind and rain blend;
The cocks crow without end.
When I have seen my dear,

How full I feel for cheer!

The Rain

Falls, falls the rain, tick-tack,
And cries the chanticleer.
Now that you have come back,
Away goes all my fear!

Drops, drops the rain, tick-tack,
And crows the chanticleer.
Now that you have come back,
All my frets disappear!

Beats, beats the rain, tick-tack,
And sings the chanticleer.
Now that you have come back,
My heart jumps up with cheer!

O My Handsome Man
Selected from The Book of Poetry, Tr. Iceiron

O so handsome were you,
Waiting in the lane. I do rue
That day I just bade you adieu.

O vigorous were you,
Waiting in the hall. I do rue
That day I did not go with you.

A brocade dress I don,
And put brocade shawl on.
O man, come with your ride
And take me to your side.

I put brocade shawl on,
And brocade dress I don.
O man, come with your ride
And make me be your bride.

A Handsome, Strong Swain

You, a handsome, strong swain
Await'd me in the lane.
Not seeing you off I regret in vain.

You, both well-built and tall
Await'd me in the hall.
Not going with you I regret ov'rall.

He wears satin so bright,
Donning a crepe cloak white
O brothers, cure my pain;
Fetch me to wed the swain.

Donning a crepe cloak white,
He wears satin so bright.
O brothers, cure my pain;
Send me to wed the swain.

Lost Opportunity

You looked plump and plain,
And waited for me in the lane.
Why did I not go with you? I complain.

You looked strong and tall,
And waited for me in the hall.
I regret I did not return your call.

Over my broidered skirt
I put on simple shirt.
O sir, to you I say:
Come in your cab and let us drive away!

I put on simple shirt
Over my broidered skirt.
O sir, I say anew:
Come in your cab and take me home with you!

Your Blue Collar

You wear a collar blue;
Blue, blue, I think of you.
Where you are I can't go,
Why no message to me, why no?

A collar blue you wear;
Ware, ware, for you I care.
Where you are I can't go,
Why no sense of return, why no?

Here by the gate tower,
I pace hour after hour.
One day that I miss you
Is like three months ov'rdue.

译文2
To a Scholar

Student with collar blue,
How much I long for you!
Though to see you I am not free,
O why don't you send word to me?

Student with belt-stone blue,
How long I think of you!
Though to see you I am not free,
O why don't you come to see me?

I'm pacing up and down
On the wall of the town.
When to see you I am not free,
One day seems like three months to me.

译文3
Blue, Blue Are Your Sleeves

Blue, blue are your sleeves;
Long, long my heart grieves.
I can't meet you, dear,
But why from you don't I hear?

Blue, blue's your belt stone;
Long, long my thought's grown.
I can't meet you, dear,
But why don't you come here?

I walk up and down
By the gate of town.
O, no you I see,
Long as months one day'd be!

译文4
Blue Blue Your Gown

O my man in blue,
How I long for you!
O you -- I can't see,
Why not write to me?

O my man in blue,
How I pine for you!
O you -- I can't see,
Why not come to me?

Upon the gate tower,
I rove hour by hour.
One day of yearning—
Is three months burning!
