¹make meɪk/ verb makes ;  made meɪd/ ;  mak·ing 

1 [+ obj] a :to build, create, or produce (something) by work or effort制作,创造或生产make  a box/chair/suit做箱子(椅子、衣服)make  someone a dress = make  a dress for someone 给某人做套衣服He works in a factory that makes  jet engines.他在一家喷气发动机工厂上班。喷气发动机喷气发动机She made  the curtains herself.她自己做了窗帘。He collected wood to make  a fire.他找了木头生火。She used cheese and a mixture of other ingredients to make  a delicious sauce.她用奶酪和由其它原料的混合物制作了一种美味的酱。— often followed by with  to describe the things that are used to produce something (后常接with)制作She made  the sauce with  cheese and other ingredients. 她用奶酪和其它原料做的那种酱。 — often followed by of  (后常接ofto describe the material that forms something组成,构成The box is made of  wood. [=it is a wood/wooden box; the material used to produce the box was wood] 这箱子是木头做的。The topping is made entirely of  cheese. [=the topping consists entirely of cheese]  顶层都是奶酪做的。— often followed by from (后常接fromto describe the source of a product…制作Cheese is made from  milk.   奶酪是用牛奶制作的。b :to use (something) to create a product — + into 变成(后与into连用)She made  the material into  a dress. 她将这材料做成一件衣服。She made a mixture of ingredients into  a delicious sauce. 她将各种原料的混合物做成了可口的酱。

2 [+ obj] :to cause (something) to exist, happen, or appear 造成,导致Someone was making  a disturbance. 有人在干扰。The car's engine has been making a strange noise lately. 最近汽车发动机老是发出一种奇怪的声音。The rock made a dent in the car's fender. 那块岩石撞塌了汽车保险杠。I'm not trying to make trouble. 我并不想惹麻烦。The typist made a mistake. 打字员打错了一个地方。I called the doctor's office to make an appointment. 我打电话到医生办公室预约。They moved over and made room for her. 他们挪过去,给她腾了个地儿。I want to make a good home for my children. 我想给我的孩子们营造一个温暖的家。

3 [+ obj] :to create or write (something) in an official or legal way 订立,制定,拟订The government should make  laws to protect poor people. 政府应该立法以保护人民。I don't make the rules; I just follow them. 我不是制定规则,我只是遵从规则。You should make a will. 你该立个遗嘱。

4 [+ obj] :to produce, direct, or act in (something, such as a movie)制作,指导或出演a director who has made  some classic films 一个导了几部经典电影的导演That actor has made  many films. 那个演员演了许多片子。

5 [+ obj] :to cause (something or someone) to be changed in a specified way ,使变为,使成为They adapted a Russian play and made  the setting Dublin rather than Moscow. 他们改编了一部俄罗斯剧本,把背景改成都柏林,而不是莫斯科。We originally planned on a one-week vacation, but we decided to make it two weeks instead. 我们原本计划放假一周,但后来决定改成两周。The experience made him a cynic. = The experience made a cynic (out) of him. = The experience made [=changed, turned ] him into a cynic. 他的经历使他成了一个玩世不恭的人。I'd like a hamburger. No, wait¯make that a cheeseburger. 给我来个汉堡。不,等一下换成奶酪汉堡。

6 [+ obj] :to cause (something or someone) to have a specified quality, feeling, etc. 让,使A good teacher makes  learning enjoyable. 好的老师让学习快乐有趣。She made what she wanted clear to us. = She made (it) clear to us what she wanted. [=she said or showed clearly what she wanted] 她让我们明白她的意思。He made it understood/known that he expected us to help. 他让我们明白,他想要我们的帮助。The experience made him cynical. 那段经历使他变得愤世嫉俗。Working in the garden makes me very tired. 在花园里干活让我累坏了。It makes me sad to think that the summer is ending. 想到夏天要结束了我就伤心。The photograph makes me seem/look fat. 这张照片里我显胖。  To make yourself useful means to do something useful. make yourself useful 意为“做有用的事儿”。Why don't you make yourself useful by washing the dishes?  你干嘛不洗碗帮点儿忙?  To make yourself heard/understood (etc.) means to do what is necessary to be sure that people hear you, understand you, etc. make yourself heard/understood (etc.) 意为“确信让人听见/听懂”。The music was so loud that she could hardly make herself heard. 音乐太响了,几乎听不见她的声音。She doesn't speak French well, but she can make herself understood. 她法语说得不太好,但能让人明白。

7 [+ obj] :to cause (something) to be or become something 使成为,变得A good teacher makes  learning a pleasure. = A good teacher makes it a pleasure to learn. 好的老师使学习变为一种乐趣。Yes, you can leave work early today, but don't make it a habit. 是的,你今天可以早点儿下班,但不能经常这样。The bright paint really makes the room come alive! 明亮的油漆使房间重现生机!

8 [+ obj] a :to cause (someone) to do something 害(得),使(得)He yelled at her and made  her cry. 他冲着她喊,害得她哭了。How can I make you understand that I love you?!  我怎么才能让你明白我爱你?!b :to force (someone) to do something 迫使We have to find a way to make  them work faster. 我们得想个办法让他干活儿快点儿。They made me wait for an hour. 他们让我等了一个小时。If he doesn't want to do it, we can't make him (do it). 如果他不想干,我们不能强迫他。They used threats to make her do it. = She was made to do it by the use of threats. 他们威胁她干。

9 [+ obj] :to give a particular job, title, status, etc., to (someone) 推荐,任命,命名They made  him (the) Emperor. 他们推举他为皇帝。They made her a member of their club. = She was made a member of their club. 他们让他成为他们俱乐部的成员。
