太平峪位于西安市户县县城东南20公里，距离西安市城区40余公里。峪内有太平河，发源于秦岭山脉，秦岭的第二高峰—静峪垴。主河道长40多公里。北出太平峪口，经长安东大镇太平河村北流入沣河。

太平峪沟壑幽深、树木茂盛、水流清澈、鸟语花香、山高林荫、沟阔滩坦、瀑美泉秀、风景秀丽、空气清新，是旅游的天堂。

太平国家森林公园，位于太平峪沟内距峪口20公里，总面积2117公顷。园内有石门、月宫潭、石船子、黄羊坝、桦林湾5个景区近百个景点。最让游客流连忘返的就是太平峪的瀑布了。这些瀑布最大落差百余米，最小的也有十几米，景象万天，各显奇秀。有的像挂天瀑布，似银河落九天；有的像飘落的银链，如天女抛玉带；有的像温柔的少女，轻柔细滑；有的像粗狂的莽夫，狂啸驰泻；潭水有的清澈见底，有的幽深绿暗。在短短的2.5公里范围内分布着12处瀑布，可以称为瀑布群，是我国北方独一无二的奇特景观。瀑布下皆有潭，飞瀑入潭，激起千层雾，形成万道虹，游走公园，犹入仙境。这些瀑布中最具特色的有：雷风槽瀑布、玉带飞瀑布、烟霞瀑布、仙鹤桥瀑布、彩虹瀑布等，号称“八瀑十八潭”。
