我现在在看《人生》这篇小说。 下面有我至今看过最好看的片段。

I'm currently reading "Life" by Lu Yao. These are the best passages I've read so far. It's a Classic Chinese novel set during the Cultural Revolution, in which the main character gao jia'lin, a young intellectual, gets banished to the Countryside.

第三章："他没有走过更大的城市， 县城在他的眼里就是大城市， 就是别一番天地。 他对这里的一切就是熟悉的， 亲切的； 从初中到高中， 他都是在这里度过。 他对自己和社会的深入认识， 对未来生活的无数梦想， 都是在这里开始的....三年前， 他就和这一切告别了。"  （现代， 我们很多人都梦到“发财”和“环游世界”这个人的这种梦想很特别）

From the Third Chapter: He'd never been to a bigger City, this town was a big city in his eyes, a world in and of itself. He knew everything about this little place, as if it were a family member: from Primary School to High School, he'd experienced everything here. All of his deep knowledge about himself and about society, his countless dreams of the future, all originated here....three years ago, he'd said farewell to all of this. （Nowadays, we're encouraged to dream about "getting rich" and "travelling the world" but this characters dreams are confined to his small home town.）

第三章： 生活的变化使他们很快就隔开很远了， 尽管他们相距只有十来里路， 但在实际生活中， 他们已经是在两个世界了。(虽然我们现在的科技更发达， 有qq，有电子邮件， 但是跟老朋友保持联系越来越难。)

From the Third Chapter: Life had dragged the two of them apart, even though they only lived ten Miles apart. But in reality, they were already worlds apart. （Even though nowadays our technology is more and more advanced, with Facebook, with MSN, but staying in touch with old friends isn't getting any easier.）

第三章： 他在这个世界里， 成了一个最无能的人 （去赶集的时候， 他突然发现他只是一个书呆子。 小的时候，陪我爷爷去赶集的时候，我也有这种感觉）

From the Third Chapter: He had become the most incapable person in the world (gao jia lin's feeling on going to a rural market for the first time, being surrounded by people who been involved in agriculture all their lives, and suddenly feeling useless. Just like when I used to accompany my Grandfater to the market).

第四章： 虽然她（巧珍）没上过学， 但是感受和理解能力很强， 因此精神方面的追求很不平常。 加上她天生的多情， 形成了她极为丰富的内心世界。 村前庄后的庄稼人只看见她外表的美。 而不能理解她那绚丽的精神光彩。 可惜她自己又没文化， 无法接近她认为“更有意思”的人.....深刻的自卑感 (这段描写渐渐爱上一个人的感觉)

From the Fourth Chapter: Even though she (qiao zhen, the main Feale character) had never been to school, she was sensitive and understanding, the spiritual things that she wanted to experience were not the same as everybody else. She wanted to explore her spiritual nature, and her colourful inner world. The townspeople only observed her outer beauty. But nobody saw the light that shone behind her eyes. It was a pity that she was uncultured, she had no way of meeting people whom she thought interesting.....she had a deep self-doubt （this paragraph beautifully illustrates what it's like to slowly fall in love with a person）

第五章：高加林和刘巧珍在绿色的甬道中走着， 路两边的庄稼把他们和外面的世界隔开， 造成了一种神秘的境界。 两个青年男女在这样的环境中相跟着走路， 他们的心都不由得咚咚地跳。(这就是为什么我们叫这件事情“fall” in love)

From the Fifth Chapter: gao jia'lin and liu qiao zhen (the two main characters)  walked down the green path together, the farms on either side of the path separated them from the outside world, it created a mysterious realm. A young Guy and a young Girl in this environment walking alone together, their hearts started to pump, almost to the speed of a jump. (this is why it's known as "falling" in love)

第五章： 巧珍： “当农民就当农民， 天下农民一茬人哩。不比他干部们活得差。 咱农村有山有水， 空气又好， 只要有个合心的家庭， 日子也会畅快的。”

From the Fifth Chapter: said by qiao zhen: "Being a Farmer is what it is, farmers are the soil and soul of humanity. We don't live any worse than cadres. Our Villages have farm and have water, and the air is clean, as long as our families are close, then our days are happy and carefree."
