Elegant understatement was
the theme of last month's
Royal
Wedding, with
maid-of-honor Philippa Charlotte "Pippa" Middleton winning nearly
as much media attention as her sister Catherine.
Like Kate, Pippa wore a classic white dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. Both the bride and her sister wore custom-designed diamond earrings from London-based luxury jeweler Robinson Pelham – a relative newcomer on the high-end jewelry scene, founded only 15 years ago. Robinson Pelham specializes in special commissions, such as the Middletons' wedding jewelry, but also puts out seasonal collections.
The diamond earring sets were a gift from Michael and Carole Middleton. Kate's - based on the family's new coat of arms - feature oak leaves and an acorn, both depicted in diamonds. Pippa's diamond drop earrings were designed with a floral motif to complement the headpiece she wore for the wedding.
Pippa and Kate both decided to forego necklaces.
In addition to the sisters' diamond presents, their proud parents also had the designers at Robinson Pelham craft an earring and pendant set in diamonds and tourmaline for Carole Middleton and gold stick pins for the father and brother of the bride, Michael and James.
For the reception, Pippa cast off her white bridesmaid's dress, opting for a green V-neck satin gown by British designer Alice Temperley with diamante detailing on the shoulders and waistband.
Temperley said it had been "an
honor" to work with Pippa on the dress design. "She is a beautiful
young woman, with such elegance, and looked stunning at the
reception," the designer added.
