Polished diamond prices continued to rise sharply throughout April. The overall PolishedPrices index rose 5.4% during the month with the index currently 24.1%  above the level from this time last year.

The average level of the index in April stood at 145.6, a 5.3% increase on the March average.

 

 

Towards the end of January the index was close to the lower level of our forecast given at the start of the year, but since then it has leapt by 15.2%, an annualised rate of over 70%, to be well above our upper range.

Since PolishedPrices started collecting actual sales data in 2002, the summer months have usually seen a slowdown in the rate of price increases, and it is reasonable to expect that prices will not continue to grow at their current breakneck pace.
