Overnight, very                                 一夜间，迅疾                       
Whitely, discreetly,                            小心翼翼，穿白衣，
Very quietly                                    轻悄悄地 
 
Our toes, our noses                             我们的趾，我们的鼻 
Take hold on the loam,                          扣紧土地，
Acquire the air.                                呼吸空气。
 
Nobody sees us,                                 我们，没人见
Stops us, betrays us;                           拦路，或背叛；
The small grains make room.                     小谷子让出空间。
 
Soft fists insist on                            柔柔拳头
Heaving the needles,                            举起密密针刺，
The leafy bedding,                              茂叶铺就的园地，
 
Even the paving.                                甚至于石子小径。
Our hammers, our rams,                          我们的钉锤，我们的榔头，
Earless and eyeless,                            没有耳朵没有眼睛，
 
Perfectly voiceless,                            静静地，

Nudgers and shovers                             挨挨挤挤
In spite of ourselves.                          簇簇拥拥。
Our kind multiplies:                            我们成长繁殖：
 
We shall by morning                             我们将在早晨
Inherit the earth.                              遍布大地。
Our foot's in the door.                         我们的脚已跨进门。
