这是SHOWstudio在几年前采访Alexander McQueen的一支短视频。里面Nick
Knight询问了McQueen作为时装设计师的一些灵感和细节。
以下的文字内容是由Vimeo上的一名叫“iphotographed
you ”的网友整理出来的部分内容。
iphotographed
you:(以下NK为Nick Knight,.McQ为Alexander
McQueen)
Loose transcription:
(5:47)
NK: (Plato's
Atlantis) Can you explain the theme behind that?
McQ: (From Wikipedia). The first thing that came up
was Plato's definition of Atlantis or where he thought it was. I
think Atlantis is a metaphor for Neverland. It could be anywhere.
It could be anywhere people find sanctuary....in bad times.
(6:45)
NK: How old were
you when you wanted to design clothes?
McQ: I think about 3 years old.
(7:30)
NK: I've always
wondered where your fascination with the macabre comes
from.
McQ: I've always been fascinated with the Victorian
view of death...It's not about brushing it under the carpet. It's
about celebrating someone's life and I don't think it's a bad
thing. I think it's a sad thing and melancholy thing but I think
it's a romantic thing because it means the end of a cycle.
Everything has an end. The cycle of life is a positive thing
because it gives… for new things to go on behind you.
(11:21)
NK: In your
clothes, there’s a lot of you, a lot of your personality. Do you
think you leave enough space for the woman in your
clothes?
McQ: You know, over the years, your mind is filled
with so many archetypes of women that you try to please all women
like a stud. It’s like having a harem of all the continents around
the world, with different types of women, different sizes of women
because geographically, women are not all the same all over the
world from Asia to America.
So as a designer you’re constantly trying to…always
get the person serviced, between you and an individual client which
is the way I’ve designed the collection and sometimes it doesn’t
read so in the show because I’m trying to cram so many aesthetics
into one show to please every type of person and it can look
disjointed, even though in my head it’s clear.
I think as time has gone on, I’ve grown to respect
women more and more and more, especially as a gay man you don’t
come to touch women not often on a physical level. You get into
their minds about exactly what they want and what they need and
what they would like and what they want to achieve and it’s like
being, uh, a ….a SURGEON… of the MIND.
(22:13)
NK: When and where
are you happiest?
McQ: Scuba diving.
(22:38)
NK: Is there
anything you envy about a woman?
McQ: Their hold over men. Their sexuality I think
it’s the ultimate way and something an insecure person you kind of
envy in ….. but I think a woman’s sexuality in any shape or form is
a powerful thing…..
(22:54)
NK: Has your life
in fashion been harder or easier?
McQ: Harder, because the more you grow the more
responsibility you have and the more people you’re responsible
for.
(26:10)
NK: Who would you
like to work with that you haven’t?
McQ: Alive - Phillip Glass. Dead - Da Vinci
(27:09)
NK: Any
regrets?
McQ: I would have paid more attention to the
situation long earlier. I should have concentrated a lot more
earlier on in my career.
(27:29)
NK: What’s the most
exciting thing you’ve ever stolen?
McQ: Someone’s heart
另外,在Lee Alexander
McQueen过世后,SHOWstudio还制作了一支《Tribute
to Alexander McQueen 》 短片来纪念他,短片导演:Nick
Knight;音乐:Björk。短片中出现了许多McQueen在世时设计的一系列经典作品。
