岩石薄片研究为地质人打开另外一扇窗

在野外条件下用肉眼或借助放大镜观察岩石,只能确定岩石中主要的矿物成分及最一般的岩石结构、构造特征,岩石的很多信息都因为其组分过于细小,而不能准确获得,使很多有价值的线索从研究者手中滑过。岩石薄片的显微镜下研究则弥补了这种缺陷。

更为有趣的是,在这种特殊的碳酸盐结核中,普遍出现一种直径仅5~20μm的球形微化石,据扫描电镜及能谱分析,球形微化石的矿物组分以CaO为主,MgO为次,可能为与湖底热液活动有关的嗜热微化石,我们暂时称其为球形钙镁质嗜热微化石(参见《鄂尔多斯盆地南缘地质剖面图集》)。
