O'Hara，美国和爱尔兰双重国籍，本科就读于英国曼彻斯特大学和美国伊利诺大学，获得经济学学士，1979年获得西北大学凯洛格管理学院金融学博士。
1979年至今她在康奈尔大学约翰逊管理学院金融系任教：1979-1984年为助理教授，1985-1988年为副教授，1989-1992年为正教授，1992年至今为讲座教授（Robert W. Purcell Professor of Finance）。
