东海广且深，

由卑下百川。

五岳虽高大，

不逆垢与尘。

良木不十围，

洪条无所因。

长者能博爱，

天下寄其身。

大匠无弃材，

船车用不均。

锥刀各异能，

何所独却前。

嘉善而矜愚，

大圣亦同然。

仁者各寿考，

四坐咸万年。

To the Southern Mountains

The East Sea is broad and is deep,

For all waters flow there and stay.

The five mounts are high and are huge,

For they reject no dust or clay.

If a tree’s not five cubits thick,

It cannot hold up a great bough.

If a man has a heart of love,

The world can count on him enow.

A great joiner uses all wood

Big or small to makes boats and carts.

Owls and knifes have different roles;

No single one can play all parts.

One should praise worth and chastise ills,

All saints and sages do like this.

Each virtuous man live a long life;

All here can enjoy eon’s bliss.
