Perhaps few people would deny the fact that competitiveness is regarded as the key element of individuals in modern society. However, people may wonder whether it is rewarding for single persons. In this essay, I will present the main influences in terms of competitiveness comprehensively.

Initially, competitiveness is the fundamental driving force of the personal success for individuals. Obviously, without the sense of competition, a vast majority of people would be reluctant to strike for their further achievement or personal pursuit. According to a sport magazine, none of the famous athletes winning the champion are willing to cease arduous practice, since they are afraid of being surpassed by others or desire to surpass themselves constantly. Furthermore, a competitiveness-oriented society would urge people to improve their working expertise at any time. It is universally recognized that chasing the maximal profit is the initial target of companies. Staff who are not aware of the importance of competitiveness might not satisfy the company, especially when they fail to keep their pace with that of the company. Therefore, emphasizing competitiveness is crucial for people to advance in the atmosphere full of fierce competition.

People’s attitude concerning competitiveness might not vary. On one hand, not only can advocating competitiveness strengthen individuals’ internal capability, but also promote the integrative progress of the society. Human beings are competitive in nature, as proclaimed in Darwin’s “The Origin of Species”. Historically, any society permitting its members to rest on the previous gain had faded eventually. On the other hand, if people overly stress the significance of competitiveness, they will tend to deteriorate the interpersonal relationship. Under such circumstance, success becomes the unique purpose for individuals or the society, whereas other factors we should take into consideration will be neglected. This would virtually lead to other vicious embarrassments.

In conclusion, modern societies should encourage the sense of competitiveness in order that people can maintain conscious of competition and avoid being lagged off. Nevertheless, individuals also have to learn how to balance the extent of competition; otherwise it will trigger another tragedy for competitors involved.
