甘露位于锡山区东部边缘、苏锡常三地交界处。南临鹅湖、北依嘉菱荡，著名的望虞河贯通全境。元末莫天佑设城、张士诚设水关，成为扼守太湖、运河要冲的战略要地和经济重镇，素有“金甘露、银荡口”之称。甘露沿月溪河仍保留古镇的空间肌理、风貌格局，上河塘和下河塘保持成排清末民居建筑，高耸的马头墙、绵延的廊棚、古朴的驳岸码头，呈现甘露坐拥交通枢纽、流通繁荣的江南小镇风貌。
