ADD and ADHD remain controversial, despite Ritalin’s mainstream presence since the 1980’s. Because there is no definite method of diagnosis for Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder, there are those who contest calling it a disorder at all. Regardless of your beliefs about what “ADD” and “ADHD” really mean, there are several holistic tools that can be helpful to stressed kids and frustrated parents.

First and foremost, take a close look at your kids’ diet.

Is it loaded with sugar? How often do you give them chocolate, other corner-store junk food or supermarket sweets? More than once a week is too much, and is enough to cause candida and behavioral changes.

A recent study showed that low iron can shorten attention span and zinc deficiency causes faulty memory in adults.

"Brain Allergies"

When kids fall into hyperactive behavior patterns, it’s worth finding out what they ate most recently. ADHD symptoms are often linked to something called a “brain allergy” – a food or other allergen (like dust or mold) that is psychoactive. These foods can trigger mental and emotional symptoms instead of a more typical allergic reaction.

The most common brain allergies are to wheat, corn, cane sugar, honey, dairy, eggs, artificial coloring, artificial flavors, and MSG. You would be amazed at how often detecting and removing the right one of these “brain poisons” from what a child eats can completely transform their behavior, energy levels, and life. (Hint: If you’re not sure where to start, try removing refined sugar from your diet or that of your child for just a week.)

Brain toxins

Toxins, such as heavy metals which collect in the brain, nervous system, liver and other organs can also be brain allergies. Did your kid become hyperactive after his first filling, or after a vaccination was administered at her school? You may need internal cleansing to remove toxins.
