Geese, geese, geese,
Necks craned long, skyward sing a song.
Their white plumes float on water green;
Their red webs stir up ripples clean.
O geese, O geese, O geese!
You crane your neck and sing to sky your song sweet.
Your white feathers float on green water with ease.
You swim through clear waters with your red-webbed feet.

Ode to the Willow
By HE Zhizhang
Tr. ZHAO Yanchun
The tree’s dressed with emerald, high to low;
Ten thousand twigs sway down their silky sheen.
Who’s tailored the leaves so thin, I don’t know;
The second moon wind cuts like scissors
keen.

古来征战几人回?
The grape wine shimmers in their jadeite cup;
While they’re to drink, a war lute urges them up.
Do not jeer at those who lie drunk aground.
Who can return from the war safe and sound?

Climbing the Stork Tower
By WANG Zhihuan

To have a thousand-mile-long sight,
You should climb up another flight.

Spring Morn
By MENG Haoran
Tr. ZHAO Yanchun
Spring morn, I find myself o’ersleep;
Here and there birds twitter or cheep.
Last night wind slashed and rain fell on;
How many blooms have fallen down?
