The United States is committed to working with partners in Iraq to provide humanitarian assistance to over a million displaced and conflict-affected Iraqis throughout the country.

An additional $20 million in emergency food assistance for Iraq shows America’s long-term dedication to help the Iraqi people.

The new funding comes through USAID and helps the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) reach 1.5 million Iraqis with food aid. This U.S. contribution comes at a critical time for the WFP, which has been forced to reduce assistance levels due to severe funding restraints for its global operations.

USAID and other U.S. government agencies work closely with Iraqi national, provincial and local governments; with NGOs and other international institutions; and with local communities and Iraqi citizens.

Since 2014, the U.S. has provided nearly $624 million in emergency humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people, both in Iraq and elsewhere in the region. These funds help needy Iraqis obtain critically needed food, shelter, clean water and medical services. The Iraqi government leads the response to the crisis, but the United States remains committed to the country in its time of need.
